Good or bad?

I am loving the H2 case and the bareness is what I want. I have made a boo boo though and I ordered a front USB/mem card reader (due to the lack anything) and like a tool, I didn't check the size and assumed it was a 5.25" but sadly it is a 3.5", so now I need to order an adapter grrrrrr.

Asus 7970 Matrix Platinum 1100 / 1650.

Currently idling around 29 / 30. The highest I've seen it reach at load is in the mid - high 70s, though in most situations it usually hovers around the upper 60s / 70.

So you wanted it without the front-panel USB/audio stuff, then bought an adaptor?

290X, fired up a bit of 3Dmark, and went

Used to sit at ~55c but after adding the meaty AC Xtreme top plate the other week, just found out Iv'e dropped some c's.:D

Considering it is roastin here for a change, that is pretty impressive if I do say so myself for a 290X air cooled under a mighty AC Xtreme(brutto edition).:D

Cheers for reminding me to check greg, forgot all about it, you are usefull sometimes after all.:rolleyes::p;):D:cool:

:)

Yer, fair point but you know what I mean :D

It is the bareness of everything inside and room to direct pipes with ease and cables. It could do with some front USB ports though but for a few squid, I got a USB 3.0 x2 2.0 x2 and memory card reader. Also needing room for a 480 rad and my old Switch case doesn't have that but the H2, I can get 2x480 rads in if I wanted :)

Today i installed the Morpheus cooler to my 290X, all went well, no issues with applying the vrm heatsinks but installing the fans was a bloody nightmare with the silly metal brackets that they supply.

Anyway, temps on the core have improved a lot, but vrm temps are high, so much so that it appears that my previous stable overclock of 1150/1400 is no longer stable, getting blackscreens in Hardline which with the stock cooler i never had :(.

I wonder how long my GPU will live in these conditions. It has pretty much been at 80°C 24/7 for 2 years IIRC, bar restarts and clean outs, moving it, driver installs etc etc. It hasn't died yet. :D

That sucks. Did you screw in the vrm heatsink? It looked like one of the better vrm sinks ive seen. What fans are you using on it?

Lesson learnt,

I've removed the Morpheus and put the stock cooler back on, the Morpheus is a fantastic aftermarket no doubt, but it's vrm cooling, especially for VRM1, is extremely poor.

The next time i remove the stock will be to put a water block on and do it proper!

I see. To get air through that heatsink you'll need high static pressure fans mate. Those crappy Bitfenix (i used to own them) are absolutely useless for airflow. I had them all over my case. I could create more airflow doing a nose pump than those things put out. I think you're doing the right thing though.

Cheers pal,

Yeah the fans were a bit pants, i just think the design is a little mental with the large heatsink, with those pins there's just no enough force pushing down on the vrms to make good contact.

It was quite easy to move the heatsink as it was wobbly and see a gap between it and the vrms too.

@uksoldierboy
Yep, those fans are utter crap for that task (and most others tbh). What you really want for best results are a pair of ~2krpm 92mm fans cable tied to the main heatsink, though a pair of say, Scythe GT's will do around the same job with a bit less noise.

Dunno what the score is with that vrm heatsink...

Cheers petey,

Honestly the heatsink is so loose, first I thought maybe it was me and I'd fitted it incorrectly, but nope, it's just very loose.

Yeah the fans are utter crap, just don't have the cash to splash out on a decent sets at the moment.

Ill probably sell it now and invest in watercooling.
