What are your GPU temps?

Cheers petey,

Honestly the heatsink is so loose, first I thought maybe it was me and I'd fitted it incorrectly, but nope, it's just very loose.

Yeah the fans are utter crap, just don't have the cash to splash out on a decent sets at the moment.

Ill probably sell it now and invest in watercooling.

Yeah, that's the best plan :D

You did use thermal pads (correct thickness) with the VRM sink, right?

Truthfully pete i'm not sure, there was a thin strip that covered the line of vrms and i followed the instructions, even though they are very vague.
There was some black adhesive (3m) in the contents too but was unsure what it was used for.
here's a pic.

I'd have to see it in person to make any kind of 'proper' judgement tbh mate :)
The heatsink being loose does point towards an incorrect installation IMO, unless their QC/build quality is off or something.

GTX780 Hydrocopper has gone from 40c max to 42c max, sad times.

Xfire reference R290s have gone from 76c max to 76c max.

Firepro M8900 hasn't changed either just laptop fan volume, gonna replace it with a 7970m soon anyway :)

I'd agree, i thought it myself too, but as far as i can see there's only one way of installing it, thin line of thermal then push both pins through the hole.:(

The black adhesive probably goes on the vrms doesn't it? Maybe that will then securely hold the vrm plate in place?

Looking around the internet at others that have installed it, it would appear i did it right, leaving only the utter crap fans to blame.

Maybe using the Corsair fans that came with my H100 would do the trick?

Hang on, it attaches with push pins instead of being bolted?

If that's the case, I have no further need of an Alpenfohn VRM heatsink which appears to line up correctly on the back of my 290's. It's yours if you want it (and if I can find the screws) :)

Extremely kind offer thanks petey, let me know and yeah just uses push pins which aren't the best tbh.

No worries man. Just trust me your address and I'll post it off tomorrow :)

You will need to address the fan situation though. Those Corsair fans are worth a try in the meantime.

EDIT: I also don't need the 92mm Scythe Kama's that I used on the Alpenhon Peter, so I'll chuck those in too with some cable ties and any spare thermal pads if I can find them.

I'll send it now, thanks again bud.

Get some of those industrial Noctua fans or a Gentle Typhoons. Never rated those Corsair SP fans much. Too noisy.

Yeah think maybe it worth a go, can't be any louder than this 290X @100% so lol.

Incredible kindness, thank you pete, really appreciate it, i owe you.

Good temps under load.

On the stock 7990 cooler? Nice, you musta got one of the few good ones that runs cool and quiet.

Well I used to see it hitting 85C when playing BF4.

So I added a custom fan curve, yeah it's noisier at times but I can't hear it when gaming anyway. I bought a corsair air 540 for better airflow and replaced the stock fans on the case with performance fans.

It's done the trick :)
