What Audiobooks are you listening to ?

On the off chance anyone is interested, the Terry Pratchett BBC Radio Drama collection is todays daily deal on audible, it's a good collection although obviously it's shortened from the actual books but works really well

Midshipman's Hope, by David Feintuch.

It was well written and I find the main character interesting. I also enjoy that the narration is from his perspective solely and not from a bunch of other characters, like Game of Thrones.

It is also, a good and solid science fiction story that received a Hugo award.

Just finished the primal hunter book 1.

I would rank my litrpg in this order so far
1) DCC
2) HWFWM
3) The Wandering Inn
4) Primal Hunter. (Lost a spot due to being narrated by Travis Baldree, I really don't rate him)

Going to listen to Columbus Day: Expeditionary Force Book 1 as its free for me atm. Not really into scifi generally but will give it a go

I listened to all of the Expeditionary Force books one after the other last year. The guy who narrates them, RC Bray, is very good. Him and Jeff Hays are easily my 2 favourite audiobook narrators.

It may take you a while to not hate Skippy the Magnificent, I loathed the character when he was introduced, but he grew on me and became a firm favourite who can annoy the hell out of me at the drop of a hat.

Scifi isnt my bag generally but the expeditionary force book 1 (about 40% done) is enjoyable
Second the RC Bray being a good narrator, thats for sure.
Narrator makes a big diff and how some get a gig is beyond me.

Plus the american thing of pronouncing herbs as erbs really hacks me off. Looking at you Travis Baldree

The narrator is so important. I have to listen to a sample as I cannot listen to a book if I don’t like the narrators voice.

One of my favourite sci fi books is The Mote in God’s Eye but as much as I’d love to listen to it on the commute, I just don’t like the voice of the narrator.

I mostly listen to audio series, usually what I've heard on BBC radio.

I've managed to find some of them on Spotify.

A few on my list are;

The Blackburn Files

Mistborn - Brandon Sanderson - 3rd book of the final empire. Hero of Ages. Really good.
Not long finished the series. Very enjoyable but I think the first three are the best. The next four (Wax and Wayne) are decent enough. but it seems to go very much off the deep end in the last one.

Really enjoyed the freebie that was Expeditionary force book 1, as far as its scifi its pretty easy going scifi.
Now skippy, other than the very first appearance (I think that could have been far better written personally) I find "him" pretty fun.

Back to Wandering Inn (book 2) and enjoying it.
HWFWM next book isn't out until after my next credit (which is my last for now) so that will have to wait.
My last credit will be either a reacher book, wandering 3 or primal hunter 2. Haven't decided yet.

I've recently finished Audible's adaptation of 1984. I'm a big fan of the book, and they did a reasonable job. Acting was good and the cut down the right parts from the book to improve the pacing. But it didn't hit me the same way as the book does.

There's so many good BBC series out there.

I've Never Seen Star Wars
Just a Minute
I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue
Cabin Pressure
John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme
The Brig Society
The Wiksons Save the World
Dave Gormans Genius
Dilemma
Hut33
The Infinite Monkey Cage
The Museum of Everything
The Unbelievable Truth
I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again
The Goons Show

The BBC has such a great history of funny.

If people are into sci-fi I recommend;

Space Force
Earthsearch
Journey into Space

These are all British productions.

Some of these will also be on youtube for free.

I'm listening to "Roadkill" by Dennis E Taylor. I love this man's work. Brilliant humour, perfect degree of nerdy and great sci-fi. And, of course, the wonderful Ray Porter narrating.
And I've just discovered that his draft plan is for 10 books in the Bobiverse. Excellent.

About halfway through Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I bounced right off this a few years ago, I was probably in a brain fog due to Covid, but I thought I'd give it another go. Loving it!
