Im trying to get through Catcher in the Rye but not enjoying it at all, haven't picked it up in a few days.

This is probably my all time most hated book. It seems to be one that apparently "should" be read but to me it was the most boring, pointless book and I really regret actually spending a few hours reading it!

Having just read American Psycho and moved onto Kill Your Friends by John Niven, I have to say that there are massive similarities between Patrick Bateman and Steven Stelfox.

Yeah I generally read modern classics and a few people recommended it but it's just turgid. Nothing happens and there is no real point to his inane ramblings. I hate not finishing a book but I'm really close to consigning it to the **** pile with Satanic Verse and the second book of the second Trudi Canavan series.

[...] I seem to be in a King phase at the moment.
Me too! After devouring pretty much all his early books as a teenager some twenty-odd years ago, I've recently been on a bit of a catchup.

So far, I've read Cell, The Green Mile, The Regulators, Bag Of Bones, 11/22/63 and Black House, and am currently going through On Writing.

The Green Mile is lovely, of course, though I'd seen the excellent film beforehand. However, the highlight for me has been 11/22/63; his portrayal of Sixties America is utterly transportational, and heck - there's even a decent ending!

I think I'm going to revisit The Stand next. Did consider going through the Dark Tower books, but I wasn't a fan of the first couple when they came out; their fantasy leanings didn't really grab me [which came as a surprise, as I adored The Talisman].

just finished 'the end of mr y'
odd book, not sure what i make of the ending and the physics interpretations were total rubbish, but i quite liked it.

Just started Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. He's a new a new writer but boy does this guy know how to write. His 2nd book in the series is due to be released soon too. It's currently on offer on amazon for 1.99 so pick it up if you like dark, grim, realistic fantasy stories.

Just starting Midnight Tides (Book 5 of Malazan) - still loving it, the amount of characters, depth of the world and general concept is absolutely bonkers but brilliant. :p

Also have to love the page sync feature on the Kindle, switching between reading it on my phone during breaks at work then on my Kindle when I get back home, seamless.

Hah that's pretty nice tbh. I do the same with my phone on work breaks except I have to spend 10mins finding the page I was on when I get home. :o

Just finished it, I found the first half of the book a real struggle as it was a world we were not familiar with.

Ending feels a little rushed (a common complaint I have with Erikson) but its a very solid book and really helps flush out the backstory some more.

Just started on Bonehunters this morning!

Sounded pretty good, so I purchased it. Must have missed out on the deal, as it was £3.99

79% through Game of Thrones now, and can't wait to be shot of it. Watching the series first totally killed any ambition for reading it. So definitely going to make sure I read the 2nd book before I carry on watching the tv show.

On a side note, my Kindle syncing doesn't really work properly. Syncing on the actual Kindle device is fine, but if I use my iPhone I have to force it to sync to get the last read page. When I finish reading on the iPhone my Kindle doesn't seem to get updated with the new "last read page". So I have to manually find where I left off. Am I missing some kind of setting on the kindle app on my phone?
