What book are you reading...

Just read bitterblue by Kristin Cashore. Really enjoyed it but hope she continues with this story rather than having it as a standalone book, there's some things needing explored further.

Now reading the Stand by Stephen King. Only 2nd chapter but typical king so far. Its huge too so will keep me occupied for a bit.

I would really like to write a novel, got a few ideas but not sure if it would be a fun project or terrible idea!

It's blinking hard work! :p

I've been trying for years but I think that says more for my lack of commitment than the difficulty :p I'm going down the short story route and building from there these days.

I'm currently re-reading Game of Thrones.
I thinly I'm enjoying it more than the first read through, even though I know the main events which are coming.

I enjoyed a reread greatly as well. Especially as I knew to watch out for certain things, and pay attention to characters I didn't the first time.

I completely missed the grave digger on the Quiet Isle first time around...

That is pretty much the only one I got!

I seem to remember you saying you thought Feast was the best of the series and I said it was the worst(if not, I apologise, must be mistaken). I have since re-read it, and I was a bit harsh....whilst I wouldn't say it is my favourite, it is probably the best written of all of them, barring Theon's chapters in Dance....still can't stand the Brienne chapters though:p

A couple of chapters into 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, not too bad so far, i think its going to be very good, just have that feeling

I'm not sure of what you said, but I did say that Feast is now my favourite. The decision to spend longer periods with fewer character, and to put persons above plot, makes for a book with a rather different (and better) feel than the others in the series.

I've now finished Blackout and All Clear (Connie Willis) and am about to read a book about Carthage by Richard Miles.

Have finished reading Empress Orchid and found it most informative about the workings of the Chinese imperial court in the 19th century.

Maybe seen as more or a book for females as there is a love story-ish thread running it but it is equally suitable for the male reader.

Now going to start The Last Empress (the follow up)

Just finished reading my first 2 books in decades; Ian M Banks Consider Phlebas, Ian M Banks A Player of Games.

Thoroughly enjoyed them but not enjoying the next 2 books in the series :(

Does the series get better again or are there other books I should be considering if I enjoyed those?

Just finished reading Great North Road by Peter F Hamilton really enjoyed it, but then Im a sucker for his books, thought the Void trilogy was absolute genius.
Currently re-reading The 30th Pan Book of Horror Stories after a strange dream I had got me thinking about it, managed to find a copy for £39 apparently its now quite rare and become a collector item, can fetch up to £140, probably for the cover art by Melvyn Grant, a couple of bum stories but an entertaining light read after the Epicness that is space opera!

Against a Dark Background and Use of Weapons are great, but then it went downhill. All are worth a read, but don't expect any more as good as those ones. As for books like them, there's a whole thread on the topic somewhere.

Currently reading Wuthering Heights (fancy catching up on some classics) and Let me tell you about beer by Melissa Cole

I thought Excession was as a good as Use of Weapons personally. Look to Windward was also good.

Matter was bobbins tho.

I loved Use of Weapons
I loved Excession

Against a dark backgound isnt scifi - edit culture (I meant to say) still is sci-fi
Feersum engine takes some getting used to in certain chapters
Matter was regarded as pants by many

I liked look to windward
I loved surface detail
And i liked the algebrist
And i liked the hydrogen sonata

What two of the books are you not enjoying?
