What can I do about a pesky tree? (parking issue)

The solution your looking for is called a chainsaw or a tree surgeon if your too lazy / inept to do it yourself.

??

Nothing to wow about.

Makes perfect sense.
I was just surprised at how elitist you come across and the relevance of his home ownership status and size of his property?

That said I don't think there is much of a moral case for asking for it to be trimmed back unless there are structural issues with it. Legally I thought the letter of the law was that anything overhanging the boundary can be cut back but this would be at your cost and you should return the cuttings if required. Obviously you'll have spoken to them prior to getting that done anyway so you'd know their preference.

We rent, so spending any money is a bit out of the question :)

The landlord literally do the bare minimum as well (but they do also leave us alone and haven't raised the rent in 5 years), so I won't be getting any help from them.

Sorry to be blunt but maybe get your priorities straight? Quite happy to have a flash BMW but rent. Get a cheaper car and save up for a mortgage instead?

:D

OP tough luck but other than chop a few overhanging branches off which won't make any difference you'll have to get the neighbours to agree and I don't see why they'd offer to pay a penny towards the BMW paint protection fund

SELL everything you have and move into a hostel OP. Seems everyone on here still lives at home at 34 and does not live in the real world.

Renters have less rights? What the actual.

Even if it was your own house, what could be done? Chopping down the tree/build a cover? I think your stuck unless you move.

I love how people are so quick to judge without any information other than two pictures.

1) I'm a company director and you need at least two years accounts before anyone will even consider giving you a mortgage. I don't even have the first years accounts yet.

2) It's not a ''flash car', it's an estate with 80,000 miles on it that I bought used from BMW.

3) I live in the south east where a 2 bedroom flat costs £300,000....

I would expect these sort of silly judgemental Facebook-esque comments from the other poster up there who joined a month ago but from a long standing member like you, this attitude surprises me.

Go talk to the neighbours. They might agree to a hard pruning or even removal is you agree to go 50/50.

Getting a similar sized tree removed from my garden in NE London and shredded cost £600 a couple of years ago.

Some the comments here are genuinely lol worthy. What's your home ownership status got to do with this???

There's not a whole lot you can do to be fair. I'd be popping around to the neighbours and having a polite work about having it trimmed back. Won't stop all the muck and leaves but should make a reasonable difference.

draconian - can a tree surgeon assess it, for any likely danger of branches falling and damaging people, and use that as motivation for action by the tree owner

Not really the car is worth 15 to 20 grand depending on mileage and condition. That's a house deposit right there. Also people use the South as an excuse. There are plenty of jobs North of Watford and you do not have to live renting a matchbox house for a silly sum a month with a tree dropping it's contents on your car for three quarters of the year.

This branched from the fact that the tree is absolutely mahoosive and the only other way to solve the OP's problem is to get the whole thing cut down which is easier said than done as I guess that tree and neighbouring house was there a long time before and entirely depends on what they want to do.

It's done 80,000 miles and is worth around 13K, If I am lucky...

We already have money saved for a mortgage, in a Lifetime ISA, but like I said as a company director I need 2 years worth of accounts to actually get a mortgage. Jeez.

Thanks to all those who answered the question and didn't just judge my lifestyle, with no actual information about me to go on.
