You own the worlds best Motorway wafter.

Stop being daft.

Have to agree with him.

An alternative would be a 7 Series - £20k would buy a nice 730d well, pretty much any 7 !

It would be a daft thing to do though, given what you already have.

I think a Jag would disappoint after an S-Class imo.

Bit of a subjective one that. I had the pleasure of a 3.2 Sport XJ8 and it was superb for gliding along the road. The nature of the car changes your driving style and attitude and to this day one of the smoothest cars I've driven, if not the best.

Same model but different colour:

I'd own one.

if you are tall jags are pants. Not too sure about the latest model but all before have very little room up front

I'm 6'3" and have always felt that Jags are spacious enough. I think this is an example of why it's pointless asking other people to recommend a vehicle. You are the only person who knows what's right for you.

I'm 6'3" and have found space to be an issue with Jags....

Big advantage of the 7-series over the S from a maintenance POV is the fact that you can buy them with sprung suspension. The only part of my car which is giving me real issues is lack of pressure in the airmatic system (air leaks from the struts which are nearing 100k miles) and im losing my patience with it fast! The struts are £750 each part only too from GSF, so thats a £2000 job to get the rear pair replaced, and thats before i think about doing the fronts.

And the big disadvantage is that electronics wise, the E65 makes the S Class look like an Abacus.

I like toys though, i cant imagine what the E65 has which is actually of any real use, but i want it all anyway :( Maybe i should get a sprung E65

Everyone is made differently. I'm all legs and find that I need the seat quite a way back but headroom is fine. My mate has short legs, sits near the wheel and has headroom issues in most cars. We're both 6'3".

CL600 Yummmmm

Basically same as your S Class but bigger engine bi turbo and 2 doors :)

It's not stupid at all, it's marketing. In many professional services where confidence and quality are converting factors people buy into people, hence the suit. Cars are the same.

My £20k buys:

I turn up to a meeting in my RS4 or GT3 and I often get a different attitude to when I turn up in my wifes S-Line. As a person or individual to deal with I am no different, therefore the person forming their view of me based on the metric of 'suit', 'watch', '£800 bag' or 'car' is flawed based on that case. Marketing is simply the management of image and perception of brand. I used to run a European PS business (and I know you offer such services), I am well aware of how important brand and image is, but look below the skin and you will often see its smoke and mirrors which is why using such criteria is often flawed. Also, a 20K 996 is asking for trouble, though if you are lucky a very solid call.

Lets be clear however, I know how important it is.

I am genuinelly suprised most people can tell the difference - the S-Line is very similar to the RS4 and it takes a car enthusiast to know it's different IMHO.

Exactly what I was thinking, someone thought I had an M5 because I had the M sills. Sounds like rubbish, unless all of the people he has meetings with are car nuts which is very unlikely.

Marketing = the 4 p's :D
