Another one for Vim for everything nowadays, once you've customised it a fair bit and gotten it how you want it - nothing beats it. Apart from emacs if you're that way inclined.

What are the shortcomings in the free version? The blurb on the site makes it sound like a time limited trial? Or is it the old shareware model that just relies on goodwill?
