What did you do to your bike today?

a lot of that will be normal picky owners tbh. From what I've read, they've basically improved on the old version in most ways.

Have you thought about the KTM 1190 adventure? Similar power at 150bhp, not quite as good on the road as the s1000xr or multistrada, but certainly up there with them.

I did think about it but I've no real intention of going off-road so the performance on tarmac is more important for me. Interesting bike though, for sure.

Fair enough - I hadn't even though about them until I saw one for sale in my local dealer for £9k, and started thinking "ooh, that's quite nice..." :D

Need to have a go on the KTM 990 SMT too, but I hate twitchy thottles (MT09 and tracer were ruined for me by this) so this may be a non starter, but worth a try anyway.

The S1000XR will be out of my budget for a while, I'm looking at up to £7-9k, I'llstart to look at bikes late summer/Autumn next year with the aim of picking up a winter bargain. And Kreeeeeee, yes I know I could get a brand spanking new Striple R for that money :p

If I got a triumph of any sort it'd be a Speed Triple R, not a measly Street Triple :D

I fully intent to keep the CB400 for a long time yet, it does the job of commuting in all weathers and being washed occasionally very well. The ONLY thing I'd change would be for it have ABS. Other than that it's perfect.

The new bike would be a 2nd bike for summer/weekend use and for touring down to the alps/scotland/italy etc. I get 25 days holiday a year so 4 weeks worth of motorbike holidays, 4-5000 miles of touring a year easily.

Buy a Tiger Explorer or GS then :D

GS - don't like the whole 'thing' around being a GS rider, I know they're cracking bikes, but I can't grow a beard and I'm still technically early 30's so faaaar too young for one ;) The Tiger just doesn't do anything for me, see below.

Don't you like the cbr600's?

I looked at couple of CBR600f's as my first bike, they were on my list of possibles - but for a sunny weekend/summer use only bike I want something a little more 'special' - which for me means a big v-twin or triple, and lots of carbon fibre/ohlins/brembo/forged stuff :D

Tuono Factory Gen2/Ducati Multistrada 1200S/Speed Triple R are the sort of bikes I'll hopefully be looking at.

Got hacked off with someone and accelerated a bit too much. Before I knew it the front was up in the air and still climbing. Eased off a bit and it dropped back, was a bit of a surprise though

This was on private land by the way and definitely not in the center of town...

Haha I had a similar experience with my sv about 3 days after passing my test.

The Speed Triple is a bit fat for that :p

I'd be more worried about getting down to the alps on a Speed triple, it's completely impractical (god knows what the tank range is, not a lot I would think!) but it doesn't stop me wanting one! The forged wheels on the early (late) R models are pure filth! :D

Don't believe all you read! My last trip to the alps I went with a pair of Speed Triple's they both were putting in between 1.5-2 litres less fuel in at fuel stops than my GSXR which was returning and average of 45-49mpg.

See I would love to get an Explorer myself, but my wife struggles to get on the back of the 800XC I have now, and cant get on it at all with luggage.

So I it looks like I am going to end up on a Sprint ST or something, simply because I am married to a pixie.

Hmm, interesting...

I sat on one the other day and the seat felt like a plank of wood though! But I'm sure there are comfort seats available. Like I say, they're high on my list to test ride, I have a decent triumph dealer close by so shouldn't be an issue. In fact dealer support round here is pretty good, KTM/Ducati/Honda/Kawasaki/Triumph and more. Even an Aprilia dealer in Canterbury (although I've only ever browsed in there, but they had a good range of bikes). P&H motorcycles is is a nice ride away too, their showroom is freaking huge!!
