What do you get from getting married?

As someone said earlier, a lifetime of headaches, bitching, moaning and whinging...according to my mates:p

But my wife doesnt do any of the above thankfully. Swear shes cooler than me, im the one who tends to fly off the handle and she will sit back and enjoy the chaos that i bring lol.

I'd like to get married one day, but only to someone I really love. Too often I see people just grab anyone who'll have them due to not wanting to be alone.

I'll continue my adventures in dating crazy chicks until a nice one comes along, making all the right noises.

I've got a close friend who got married about six months ago. I hate to say it but she's now incredibly annoying; there are no more normal conversations as everything relates to being married and how wonderful married life is. I'm very happy that she's happy but I can't help but feel that the amount she talks about it / references married life suggests that she is over compensating for something?

More than likely. It's just the type of thing someone not so intelligent would do. I'd say something is up.

Yep thats pretty much what i did after the collapse of my last marriage, mind you before i got married first time i dated enough crazy chicks then married one:p. But this time around it took me nearly 10 yrs to find the right one but again dated all sorts of crazy nutty women, had lots of fun but until my wife popped along, i wasnt going to marry any of my ex's.

Thankfully my wife is crazy, nutty but in a good way unlike the first one i was with.

As a man ? Nothing

As a woman ? Possibly a house, a car, "wages" for life without having to work and if she's really mean, a dog.

Edit: Sorry, thought we were talking about divorce.

Sex usually stops after a while:(

It shouldn't. It diminishes over time but that happens married or not. No reason that a married couple shouldn't still be sexually active even as pensioners (try not to picture a mental image of that)

The trouble is, going slightly off topic here, that society and the media is obsessed with the amount and type of sex people have. This then leads to some kind of anxiety that your sex life isn't like what is described in these magazines. As long as you and the other half are happy with your sex life it shouldn't matter, but that doesn't sell magazines. Oh and 'mens*' magazines are just as bad. I should set up a company offering psychology for this 21st century problem, I'd be minted.

* I use that term lightly. I mean Men's Fitness and ilk.

I get the fact that I can fart under the covers and hold her head under without her being able to dump me.

Then she towel whips me in the kitchen and gets her own back.

Apart from that, we have a loving and often hilarious relationship.

As already echoed, and speaking personally, woman generally get a better deal financially by a mile. I'm sure there are guys out there who've married someone better off than them but I've I've only one friend whos struck gold.

He earns circa 30K, she earns close to 6 figures with considerable family assets - house paid for, wedding paid for, luxury holidays etc all paid. But thats uncommon.
For the majority I've seen including myself, wife and children are a massive drain on resources in the long run. In return, bloke gets companionship

It's a wonder why we do it, it doesn't make any economic sense no matter how you look at it.
