What do you think of supreme commander?

"zomg the demo was trash I'm not gonna bother playing this game"

That :)

Back on topic. Is the demo seriously not a fair representation in any way? Is performance roughly the same from demo to full game?

I want to gauge dual screen performance before I spend the cash.

I'd not know, but the demo wasn't as good as the beta.
the whole beta AI thing was a mess, the map was so small it was silly.

absolutly loving it. i have just completed the 3rd mission on the UEF campaign and have loved every second. the fact that you have to stay on top of many battle seqences is great. at the end of level 2 i had a 5 pronged attack that i was trying to co-ordinate to take the Aeon base down, even then i had to send for more reinforcements the whole time because the base is so heavily defended.

great game, i wonder if ther is a benchmark thread for it yet O.o

I got my copy on Friday, and my PC broke down the same Friday, so I have only played it abit on my brothers PC, my new PC should arrive on Tuesday, but its basically TA with a different name, so it rocks.

i got this today, only played first mission and find im playing it like c&c, sending in a group of 10 tanks hoping to win but they jus get eaten by turrets before i get in range. i cant wait to play my bro at multiplayer tho

Didnt like it tbh, graphics look like it was designed for a Geforce4, very bland and dull, after 3hrs on the demo all I was doing was sending over mass troop volumes to locations, proberly the 1st time ive ever used the mouse wheel so much just felt like I was zoomin in and out of the giant map 90% of the time, battles looked confusing.

Think ill wait for the CnC3 demo, those guys know how to do it right, simple and fun is the formula ;)

4hrs afterwards, and I couldnt have been more wronger....

This is a good game, it just takes a bit of time getting use to the controls/systems when you start teching up and releasing bigger/badder units u really get to see the graphics and gameplay kick in, was trying Skirmish and it does look like fun to me.

I still feel that CnC3 will do it better, and I hope they too have good tech upgrades, perhaps be better if its one resource to collect also, I find it a bit irratating when RTS games concentrate on resource/collecting but usualy as long as theres a bundance around its all good, at 1st I thought SC was gonna be that old hat of collecting Resources but its not quite the same.... hope CnC3 has a similar method with more then one way to get resources ie drilling plants or ore buildings.

Either way feel like upgrading to a nice shiny E6600+X2900XTX+Vista pc as an appropriate excuse ;)

Oh for the doubters keep playing SC, or try the Skirmish/MP it does get a lot better....

Any hints on letting this game run smooth on my pc, or does the full game run better as the demo?

The demo is laggy as hell for me in dual screen mode, even with everything on lowest but reso ( 2x1280x1024 ).

I really like RTS games, but i can't enjoy them on 15-20 fps :( .

just working my way through the UEF campaign still. just seen my first battleship mwhaha. i dont want to play skirmish till i have done the campaigns to keep all the units fresh :P sad yes but there we go.

Ok I received my copy and am installing right this second... but the bloody map and tech tree paper supplement is in flippin french! Aghhh!

Now i'm getting told I have an invalid CD key... double arrghhh!

i think virtually everyone who has bought this recently has the tech tree in french, i know i did!

i think i really like the game. you do have to be patient, but once you've worked out your basic economy and can build loads of units whilst still constructing offensive/defensive structures it's all good. mastering the transports are quite important i reckon too, build at a number of locations and just move (or ferry if you can get the thing to work) your troops where needed.

it requires a different kind of thinking, attacks in waves supported by long range see and air bombardment. you can just send a load of units into attack but there's no guarantee they'll survive or win. i think it was mentioned somewhere above but long range artillery/and or any bomabrdment tech is so useful it's ridiculous. tech 3 aeon battleship thing is amazing.

To me its disappointing on a few different levels.. the units look so dull and plain looking, sure theres gonna be lots of them on the screen so we can't have mega detail but still they could have been made to look much better. In that respect I think TA looks nicer! I agree the graphics do look like that of a game where 3D RTS was a new thing, very unpolished.. Check out how the little flying ships that come out to 'help' the commander when constructing just disappear when the construction is finished...lots of little things like this make the game very patchy to me.

The firepower effects of the weapons are so lame.. the units are very samey its untrue with they way they fire :( I actually prefer how battles looks with the original TA... Can only hope mods and extra units are made for it.

I am a die hard TA fan and I feel things have been missed in favour for boasting about how big the map sizes can be, and the whole pushing of the epic size of things... where areas I think have been greatly missed and overlooked. SC could have been much better I feel :(

Couldnt agree more mate, I too loved TA but am left dissapoint by this.
Demo was pap but the full game aint much of an improvement, No matter the size of the map you spend most of the game zoomed wayyyyy out and all you are commanding are dots on the screen. Might aswell be Civ 1 tbh. The fancy effects are pointless cause you never get to see them, and yeah all units look the same, fire the same and die the same, overall poor.

Bring on C&C3 and World in Conflict plz

Why are people moaning that it doesn't look great zoomed out? I mean if that feature wasn't there, it would be real hard to play the game at all. I bet C&C3 won't have the same size maps or allow for as many units. Thats what TA and now SupCom is all about. SupComm is not the same game as C&C.

Oh, and don't judge the game on the first few levels of the campaign. Until you get all the tech 3 stuff, the game is average. Then it gets better and better.

There is one building that takes 375 *minutes* to build, I set the game to +4, I got 10 units building it, and it took over 20mins to build. But, it is quite powerful! :)

EDIT: Another clever feature of the game is how you can build a mass extractor and build others adjacent to get a bonus.

So, if you build a power plant next to it, you get a bonus reduction in power usage for the extractor. Or you can build a mass storage building next to it, to boost the amount of mass you get slightly. Now, you can build 4 buildings next to a mass extractor, so its up to you what you need. A similar thing applies to energy buildings.

Morning all.

I play in 1280 x 1058 res, how do you now seasoned SupCom players think my system will stand the pace?

Cheers peeps.

C'mon, you lovely people... can no one offer a view on the above!

I do speak French if that helps!!!!!

It sould play well, but your CPU will be the limiting factor. The game craves CPU power, and needs loads when you have masses of units in the game.

yeah you've got the same processor as me but better other stuff. i can play it at 1680x1050 on medium settings (no fancy settings or anything) and it's fine until hundreds of units head for an enemy base then it starts to slow down, but it's not got to the stage yet where i've been unable to play it.

Cheers Caustic, you hansome devil!

I'm due to get this game in a few days, and am now a little worried about my steam-powered CPU!

I am due an uprade soon (in light of STALKER/C&C3/Crysis/Frogger2), so I might have to wait until then to see all the lovely stuff on this game.

Anyway, enough of that rhubarb, thanks for responding.

Are... now that sounds promising. I only ever play at 1280 x 1058, so I might just get away with it!!!!

Cheers me old jack 'o' clubs!
