What do you think of supreme commander?

Cheers Caustic, you hansome devil!

How well you know me :p

The game does make use of Dual, and Quad CPU's so a cheap upgrade would be an X2, and it would make a huge difference.

EDIT: Just noticed that you have a socket 939 mobo, just like me. The issue we have is the price of 939's is high and lower clock speeds :(

Nice idea... me old mukka. I was thinking of doing an X2/8800GTS upgrade in another 4 months.

EDIT: Yeah, prices are a bit mental... might have to consider a Conroe jobbie!

I would imagine it should run ok on medium settings @ that res ...

My 4000 @ 3.1 / x1900xt / 2gig 3200 runs it at 1600 x 1200 at medium without too much trouble so 1280 x 1024 should be ok :)

I don't have the game yet, but I'm hearing some hoopla regarding the UI. Is it that bad?

Only if you are big into your RTS games. Besides, all it needs is a patch to adjust it slightly to make all the difference.

will my spec run this game in 1280x1024? as follows...

148 opteron - non oc'ed
2gb ram
7800gtx

cheers :p

Am I right in saying a 148 is a single core 2.2Ghz? I have a 2.4Ghz normal Athlon 64 and the game is dying for more CPU power.

yup unfortunately its not dual core, which sucks and from what im reading im going to need an uber cpu or its gonna run like a dog with two legs. :(

I'm having an absolute mare here... my CD key is continueally being rejected as "invalid". I've tried typing it in every which way exactly as it appears on the back of the manual... any ideas why it's throwing a wobbler? :( :o

not very well. Ive got
Opteron 146 overclocked to 2.8ghz
2gb ram
X1800xt overclocked to 700core, 800mem

I play in 1024x768 in lowest settings and it slows to around 15fps in quite heavy battle on the demo which is the smallest map. I prefer high fps at cost of some fancy graphics because its a fast paced game and i hate low fps. (also im not really bothered what it looks like) low settings dont look horrid anyway, im zooming in and out all the time aswell, so unit logo's dont look different!

price is high low clock speeds? I though an opteron 165 is about £100 and people are getting 3ghz. thats not that slow or expensive really, is it?

So who is running the game on an A64 X2/Opteron dual core processor? What are your clocks and how does the game run?

So far its seems like only the C2D people are getting all the fun! :p

My 939 Winchester 3000+ doesnt run it too well tbh. It cant cope with more than 2AIs without lagging badly. I'm trying multiplayer soon, so will see how it copes playing against real people. Thats the main fun afterall! But yes, it's got me thinking about grabbing a new cpu. Not sure how much difference a 4000+ or something would make though..

No it isn't, except I was not thinking about Opterons and not everyone can overclock.

Just to spell it out to you:

£165 for X2 2.4GHz with 939
£165 for X2 2.6GHz with AM2

But, with AM2, you can get a lot faster CPU if you want, so my upgrade options are limited since I have a 939 mobo and since my single core A64 is currently at 2.4GHz, its a lot of money, for an extra core. If you have a faster single core chip, its even worse.

i only built my pc just before xmas. but i guess it all goes out of date far too quickly... oh erm, i mean xmas last year :S lol. ah i guess its time for an upgrade. where do i get rid of un-wanted components?

why dont you get an opteron 165 and decent cooling then. should be about £130 for duel core and 2.8ghz

The UI is good in the sense that it gives you all the information you need, the problem is it takes up half the damn screen!

Also, my:

A64 3500+
7800GT
2gb Ram

FAILS! Totally grinds to a halt once you charge into the enemy base with 100+ units (which I guess I can't really fault it for given everything that's going on!).

Other than that I'm really enjoying it, outside of the chugging I find the engine really impressive and I love the difference in size between the normal and experimental units!
