What Do You Want in Half-Life 3?

So I want to be able to 'be inside' hl3 :)

*refrains from making bad joke about Alyx* :p

I dunno what all the plot-bashing is about, I love the Half-Life universe plotline, I think it's great. Lots of questions, myterious goings-on, hints at answers, etc etc. I bet most of the pieces of the puzzles are already, or will be before the end, in place, and in hindsight it'll look fairly obvious.

I just hope they can live up to the potential that's there, rather than 'doing a Matrix' and answering all the questions with weak, poorly thought out bits of tacked-on content. :o

Why do people get so uptight about expansion packs?? Valve is a company, and its employees get paid. In order for Valve to survive, they have to make money so these employees continue to get paid. Whats 3-4 hours of gameplay to you is years of research/development/testing time (i'm including original HL2 costs/time), so is it bad that a compnay wants to make some money out of it now its been released???

If my boss asked me to code for free I'd tell him to *** off!

Put it this way:

Hire a DVD for the night = ~£5 for 2 hours
Watch a film at the cinema = ~£8+ for 2 hours
Buy EP1 = £13 for 4 hours (not including unlimited replay value).

Don't forget too that Steam has to be kept running and the developers are constantly fixing things/adding HDR etc (which all costs money).

No brainer IMO

As for HL3, I'd like to see more of the same. HL2 is one of my all time favourites

Come on ..........
You know as well as I do gaming now is just about money making unfortunately (particularly "Big" titles like HL3)
They are not gonna give us a game of epic proportions the like of HL1 ever again.

A game like HL1 released now for example would be "split" into HL 1,2,3,4 with extra "Add -ons " available for a price.

You trying to tell me that for example lets take Oblivion ,you should pay extra for the Orrery or horse armour when it is a blatant rip-off. They are now designing games with parts they can "remove" and try and sell back to you as a seperate item.

Bloody right I am ****** off about being ripped off.

When I buy a game I expect value for money.

So get this lokkers : I may have to pay for expansion packs IF THEY ARE WORTH IT, fair enough.......

BUT I DO NOT LIKE PAYING FOR HALF A GAME !!

If your not that bothered about paying more for something you have already bought then your are either a silver spooner or are prepared to be taken for a mug, and just encouraging the gaming industry to exploit people.

FULLY star your swearing.

The episodes around 4 hours in gampeplay length or 8? So in theory x that by 3 (episodes) and you have a game for around twice the price of HL2 when it was launched and less gameplay time.

Don't forget the extras you get when you purchase the episodes , ep2 you should get portal and TF2, so i think we do get good value for money, ep1 came with hl: Deathmatch and something else I can't remember.

You don't have to buy these things though, if you don't like it, you can buy something different that does suit your needs.

PC gaming is at a crucial time to try and compete with the new wave of consoles currently, and we're also seeing very cheap PC gaming, back when Half-Life 1 was out, we were paying closer to £35 for games, now it's more like £20-25. Sure, Episode One is a little short, but you know what you're getting when you buy the game after reading review etc, and it's not as if you have to own episode one to enjoy anything else about Half-Life 2. Same with Blueshift, that was about £20, and that probaby lasted me less time than Episode One did, but I thought it was well worth the money.

There's so many games out there that are just made, released, then forgotten about it's silly. Valve have generally been good for the industry, and Steam, if people like it or not, has huge benefits, allowing constant support for games.

Ok Davey D. I agree with a lot you say.

But PC gaming is not cheap. (If you want to play a PC game to it`s high settings).

I bet you would not want to play any game at low detail with effects turned down.

You cannot argue the fact that game designers /publishers are out to milk the customers for as much cash as possible (it is a business) at the expense of VFM to the customer .

Saying I don`t have to buy it is the easy option.
I like gaming and particularly FPS`s. So I want to play them. I would just like to get VFM. What is wrong with that?
Also the modding community have been great for games also !

It seems the English way to pay high prices for things without questioning the value for money ;) And I`m English !

I do agree Episode One was a borderline for me with regards to value for money, and PC gaming is quite expensive with regards to hardware etc, though that can be said for console gaming as well, as to get the best out of that you need to spend a good £500-£1000 on a decent HDTV to get the most out of systems.

I'm quite suprised how the HL2 modding community really isn't pushing out that much stuff very quickly, I was hoping for a huge amount of genre busting games to rival Counter-Strike and Team Fortress, but still not seen anything.

I don't think the companies are doing *that* badly really with regards to pricing etc, as they're not going to hit as many sales as consoles, and have a lot of risks to take to get their products to sell.

Hopefully Episode Two will be a lot more value for money, coming with Team Fortress 2 and Portal, it should be an interesting christmas anyway.

The original Half-Life expansion packs were never free. Also you have to take into consideration how far gaming has advanced since then. For example HL1 took 2 years to develop, HL2 took 6 years, for obvious reasons. Personally I would have preferred it if they had released a proper expansion pack for HL2 and not the 'episodes', but that would mean waiting probably another 1-2 years, and then spending 25-30 quid all in one go, which wouldnt bother me, but a lot of people cant wait that long.

I agree EP1 was a bit short, but it was still worth a tenner (just), and at least with EP2 we will be getting Portal and TF2 along with it. If it gets to the point where your playing Gran Turismo 7 and your having to pay 'virtual' insurance and MOT for 800 individual cars, then I will stop gaming :)

I don't get people complaining about the HL episodes. Paying extra for addons is nothing new, and the fact is these are cheaper than addons used to be, plus they are not technically addons (although I doubt many people would buy them if they didnt have hl2). HL2 was a complete game, just because they are making extra content doesn't mean HL2 wasn't complete.

The oblivion micro-addons are a different story. I think the jury is still out on those although I'm especially annoyed because I paid for some of them and I can't even get them to install and Bethesda don't seem to be doing anything to rectify this.

HL2 is my fav all time game (apart from cs ans i love valve/steam for al lthat they do).. i just jump in it to relive some stress now just running around shooting things and throwing things :)

thanks to all the people defending this great game!

i would like to see more vehicles, guns, bigger levels, naked women, running splashing water (better phys i guess) - in the future.... and would also like it to be a bit more immersive.. a bit more role-playing .. get to build your character a bit more.. interact with things a little... maybe more things then just guns... interact with other characters a bit more. ( a slight touch of oblivion would help here)

also... people complain about paying for expansion.. even though its peoples work, and without money it wouldnt be made in the first place... i would like to know what you think of pay-to-play games... i for one get ****** about havingto pay for the game THEN pay to play it!!! you should at least be able to d/l the game for free if you have to pay just to play!

anyway <3 HL

Personally I don't think most of those things would fit into a HL game. I'd like to see those features in a new original game maybe, but that isn't what HL is about.

I'd like HL3 or whatever to bring in some things to make it feel a little more like the original. The range of weapons in HL2 seemed lacking in comparison to HL1. Also as much as I prefered fighting the marines in HL1, HL2 seemed to be missing out on the more alien enemies. Most of HL2 was spent fighting humanoid enemies and I miss things like vortigaunts (although it wouldn't make sense to be fighting those again), houndeyes, snarks, gargauntuans, etc. Also as much as people didn't like Xen, I'd like to have a brief part in an alien world rather than the whole thing being set in earth like places.

yea.. but i only mean a touch.. mostly at that start, to get you to 'feel' the character more.

however, i like fighting a human character more then an alian.. guess thats cos of CS:S.. i would liek to to see better AI (even though the AI rocks SO hard as is :) )

-More varied gameplay
-More story
-More weapons
-More civilian shooting (how can I shoot at a person and the bullet just DISSAPEARS?)
-More interactivity (picking up objects just doesn't do it)
