What Do You Want in Half-Life 3?

Come on ..........
You know as well as I do gaming now is just about money making

A business making money?!?! Surely not! ;)

You trying to tell me that for example lets take Oblivion ,you should pay extra for the Orrery or horse armour when it is a blatant rip-off. They are now designing games with parts they can "remove" and try and sell back to you as a seperate item.

We arent talking about Oblivion. To give you an idea, I wouldnt buy any of the BF2 expansions because like a lot of people I think EA/DICE should be working on fixing the bugs in the original without adding more content. VALVE on the other hand are constantly releasing updates (via Steam) and I have no problem paying some money for their hard work.

Bloody right I am ****** off about being ripped off.

How is ~£10 for 4 hours gameplay a rip off? Better value for money than buying a DVD, renting one from Blockbusters, going to the cinema, a night on the lash etc... Plus you can play it through again (which I know I will).

When I buy a game I expect value for money.

See above...

So get this lokkers : I may have to pay for expansion packs IF THEY ARE WORTH IT, fair enough.......

BUT I DO NOT LIKE PAYING FOR HALF A GAME !!

full game = £25-30, therefore half a game = £12-15. Seems reasonable to me ;)

If your not that bothered about paying more for something you have already bought then your are either a silver spooner or are prepared to be taken for a mug, and just encouraging the gaming industry to exploit people.

No, as a developer I can appreciate the hard work that goes into writing and testing code. You first sentence also makes no sense - I haven't already brought EP1, and so how can I pay more for it? If they had bundled EP1-3 into a new game (lets call it HL3), you would have to have paid for it, no? With inflation, and given say 3 years until release (you wanted a full game remember), lets say it'll cost you £40 on release.

It is therefore BETTER value for money for us for them to release the 3 episodes @ £12 a pop rather than waiting for a 'full' game at £40...

At the end of the day lokkers, everybodys view of value for money is different.

If you look at £ per gameplay hour, episode one provides pretty much the worst value in pure figures, but I'm not going to go into that now, but if we are pricing games on proportion to how much they should cost compared to their length of the original, Episode One should cost ~£7.

I hope the 3rd is more like the first, i.e more monsters and not just combine after combine. Also it would be nice to have weapons more like on CSS, id also like to get rid of the gravity gun as it does nothing for me. In next gen gfx it should look stunning  .

In the 90's there were far more game companies in it for making it fun for them and the player, not just getting the most recent graphics and trying to make money. Unfortunately that's not possible with all this next-gen rubbish, it costs too much money to make games for publishers to take 'risks', so games aren't as fun anymore, really.

I'm guessing you haven't played ep1 with the commentary on. A HUGE amount of work goes into making it fun. They didn't just put some shiny HDR on it and quickly churn out a few levels. They spent months making sure each second of the game is as enjoyable as possible. They used extensive playtesting and loads of revisions of each section to get it right.

Of course games companies are out to make money. That's the way the world works. But it doesn't mean that the people making the games aren't genuinely interested in making a good game.

They didn't make any attempt to add more interesting gameplay elements in, or even a new weapon. It's just the same linear shooting which doesn't make it very fun.

I found it fun as did a lot of people, it was just a bit short IMO.

You obviously haven't heard the commentary. I can assure they did put a lot of effort into it. Adding new gimmicks isn't the only way to make a game fun. Seems a lot of people can only recognise new gameplay elements if they are a new weapon or enemy. There's a lot more to it than that.

Yup, Episode One didn't add anything new to me, but, it did give a good amount of the same good stuff that made Half-Life 2 work well, which is what most people want.
