What film did you watch last night?

Nightcrawler - 7/10

Quite odd movie about a guy who starts chasing accidents and crimes, filming them to sell the footage to a local news station. Reasonably good though.

I watched that a while back, the main guy is a good actor for sure but after watching this film i'm a bit put off by him now. He put on such a convincing weirdo act, defo a good strange film, but just weird.

Jungle 6/10

Really enjoyed this, but if i score it higher it would mean i'd watch it again. I'm not sure i'd want to watch it again as the main guys were annoying at first, but when the film got going i was easily drawn in and on edge.

Tis the season, so Die Hard :D.

Still a great movie, not seen it in a while, the 2 hours just flew by. Now do I watch Die Hard 2 ;)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Possibly my favourite out of them all as it has a good balance of elements that make for a good all-round movie experience.

The Last Duel

Pretty much all I knew about this film was those ridiculous half-helmets in the promo materials, so I wasn't expecting great things but, hey, I'm a sucker for a medieval flick so I thought I'd give it a try. It's a much better film than I expected, and feels like it's not far from being really good. It tells the true story of the rape of Marguerite de Carrouges from three perspectives and then climaxes in the eponymous duel: the last judicial duel ever fought in France. It's stylish and well acted, and three perspective approach was interesting and brought home the awful way that women of the era were treated and viewed, but I felt it didn't quite land. It needed the three perspectives to be a bit more distinct to make it work. The final duel itself was dramatic but I felt it was badly let down by the ahistorical changes they made. The actual duel is well documented and as least as dramatic as the one they showed, yet they chose to substitute it with a unconvincing spectacle with armour and combat that seemed dreamt up by someone who hadn't the faintest idea of how medieval combat worked.

Watchable but flawed 6/10

Dune (2021)

Almost everything about this film is great.

The production design, the cinematography, the score, the acting, even the fact the film makers manage to make very complicated plot and story elements fairly easy to follow for people who haven't read the book.

But for me, just like Arrival and Bladerunner 2049, Denis Villeneuve seems to make sci-fi films that just don't click with me and I find them too slow and boring with no emotional connection or empathy for any of his characters.

Although I did enjoy Bladerunner 2049 more when I watched it for a second time, knowing it was a slow burn film. The same can't be said for Arrival. I've also watched this twice and it just didn't do it for me.

Maybe when we get Dune part 2 and I rewatch Dune part 1 I'll think differently.

6/10

I was pretty much the same. Very well polished and the acting was fine. I loved the RTS games back in the day so was excited for this but the story didn't really have anything special about. Most of the cast all killed off as well yet as mentioned I had no empathy at all.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (twice, actually. Won't bore you with the details why).

9/10. I was super hyped for this, having loved the Sam Raimi films and watched them over and over as a kid, so seeing the villains again exactly as they used to be was so surreal. My criticism for Far From Home a couple of pages back about these Spider-Man films always feeling in the shadow of Iron Man, well Tony/Iron Man is mentioned far less in this one. I'm glad to say that this well and truly feels like a Spider-Man film.

No time to die - 7/10

I had intended to see this at the cinema but for various reasons it just never happened.

First 20 mins was classic Bond and appart form the landrover wood chase scene later, the rest of the film left me underwhelmed. Certainly one of the worst Danial Craig Bond films.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Possibly my favourite out of them all as it has a good balance of elements that make for a good all-round movie experience.

Yeah I been thinking about this on and off for a long time, my favourite movie of all time, and I think it has to be this one.

Early 90's, still using mostly special effects and not so much GCI, good music, just ticks every box.

Did you think about the box of roses with the shotgun in at the start - eg Guns n Roses. Only very recently did that twig, little things like that, just epic.

Unforgiveable

9/10 thoroughly enjoyed it, its been a while since a new modern day film has held me totally for the whole duration of the movie. Brilliant acting from all, Sandra "I never age and look amazing" Bullock was sublime, gotta get nominated for sure. I also never thought for one moment once during the whole movie of the little twist that was thrown in. A few things were off like the age difference of the sisters,
or even the possibility regarding the twist - the age of the little girl at the time of shooting the sheriff with a shotgun maybe a bit far fetched

But overall a fantastic movie, highly recommended.

Mother Android. It was pretty enjoyable film to watch but the emotion side of things they dragged it too far (made it a boring watch). Other than that the plot was ok.
