What game 'hooked' you the most?

Nethack. It helped that at the time I had no computer of my own and played it on the Sun system at work, but it was still ridiculously addictive. On several occasions I played up 10pm or later, usually without having any idea of how much time had passed. I used to go into work on the weekend just to play (that, and to get out of the house I was in at the time). After I was made redundant I got a version for the PC and played it for six more years....

Soldier Of Fortune 2 had me hooked for 2.5years. Played it every day for a few hours atleast, got hooked on it because of the small community and the fact that 99% of the people were friendly and it was such a laugh on IRC and teamspeak during games.

Battlefield 2 has got me hooked, i just hope with the booster packs it keeps me going for at least 2yrs :)

Same for me the community is amazing all down to www.sofplayers.co.uk

PS2:
Half Life: I never even got it for PC which is strange but I loved this at the time.
Harvest Moon: This ate up hours of my life over Christmas, got it as a present thinking it would be rubbish, turns out I ended up loving it.
Pro Evo Series: Absolutely the best football series available, I get together with mates occasionally for a mini tournament,

PC:
CoD 1/UO: These had me hooked for absolute ages although I never did finish the story campaigns. UO was immense online as I joined a clan for the first time and ended up meeting some great people. If you ever played on the "Happy Penguin 24/7 Foy" server youll know what I mean, that was an amazing map IMO /End essay
Half Life 2: Had me hooked from the start to the end, loved the airboat and the physics.
GTA Vice City: I did the story on PS2 but I played the multiplayer on this, actually got quite good and got to know some of the dev team etc
GTA San Andreas: The game thats taken hold of me most recently thanks to GTA:Rumble, MTASA and SAMP. Thanks to knowing some of the devs from Vice City I managed to get in on the BETAS etc, I introduced Naffa and Spunj to it a bit aswell :p

First game to really grab me - UT.
Played it for hours and hours on end - And those FPS skills are with me to this day!

X2 was another one which was played for months.
Empire building is kinda groovy. :p

The game to grab me for the longest time, and still is...
www.ogame.org
Nearly 10 months I've been playing it now, 8 of them every single night!

Hitman 2 - nothing beats cutting someones throat when they didn't see you coming
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault - though the flying bit was dissapointing and really shouldn't have been included

Day of defeat, because plugging Germans from 500 metres
+ away with my trusty M1 and getting the deafening "Ka-ting!" of the spent bandolier never gets boring.

And I'm good at it :D so playing it is fun as well as rewarding, as opposed to just banging my head against the wall :)

Played HL2 through almost in one sitting too...really enjoyed it :)

Used to play Q3 a lot too, as well as Transport Tycoon and KA52 Hokum. Mixed bag!

Sad to say Pokemon on the Gameboy Colour was played non stop for about 2years when pokemon was the thing every kid wanted.

Then came my first online game, The Myth of Soma. That game had me hooked for 2years and I must have spent every waking hour playing it. haven't been able to get into an MMORPG properly since :(.

Now it's just CS:S and too many MMORPG beta's to name.

COD2 definately for me. i've only just got into PC gaming since around Christmas time and only started playing COD2 online since April - already played 262 hours

I'm currently banned from my pc because i play too much COD2 :p:D i've now gone two weeks with only about an hour or so playing it :( i'm craving.

I feel bad because i bought CSS and DOD:S about a month ago but have hardly played either due to my COD2 addiction. Come to think of it, i haven't actually played against anyone on CSS :P

I'm going thorugh HL2 for the first time now and really enjoy it, i want to finish it so i can try out Episode 1.

world of warcraft nothing has ever came also so how much i play this just a massive game always something todo but 7 months of play i havent touched another game

For me it was an Unreal Tournament modification called Strikeforce. I played that regularly on the UT engine for HOURS. It was a Counterstrike clone but had such a small community that you knew all the people you played against.

It just had that essential element of playability and the 'just one more go' factor. Sadly, they moved development to the UT2004 engine and it was just never quite the same game....

Battlefield 2 is having a good go at stealing my life at the moment as is Pro Evo 5. But nothing will come close to Strikeforce for the amount of gaming hours.

So what game grabbed you, and why?

CounterStrike 1.3 and then forever on other versions
World of Warcraft
Championship Manager Series

Operation: Flashpoint for about 3 years.
UT(99, not the 03/04 crap) for about 3 years also.
Freespace 2.

All oldies, newer games just cant get it right.
