Well I have a very long list of games that didn't live up to their billing, but I'm now going to project into the future and name(then shame if needed) games that simply won't/didn't live up to my expectations. Everyone is different, so it's all about your view.

I predict these two first will not be as good as I think:

Mafia 3
Gears of War 4

I hope I'm wrong, but 2K not releasing early review copies has set an internal alarm off for Mafia 3.

I'm not absolutely certain, but I don't think Bethesda gave review copies of Doom before its launch either, so while I can understand why someone might view that as a negative, it doesn't necessarily mean bead news. :)

I pre-ordered WRC 6 & Mafia 3 which are both due over the next two days so I'll give impressions then. The trick is not to over expect, I'm going in expecting both to run terrible and need several patches to make them playable that way I won't be disappointed easily. :D

Few if any will disappoint me as the games I buy nowadays are few and far between. None are triple A and when I do buy it's a long time after release so I know what I'm parting with money for.

KF 2 was the exception, I bought that in early access because that type of game would never disappoint me.

Whilst everyone is hoping Resident Evil 7 will be quite different from 5 & 6, I really liked 4,5 & 6 and worry I will be disappointed if they completely change the game mechanics...

That's an interesting one. I actually enjoyed the demo and am convinced it will be horrific in VR :)

We will see with mafia, doom didnt release review copies either so food for thought

Half Life 3 will disappoint me when it's released because I'll be six feet under.

Won't ever disappoint me on release, because there won't ever be one.

Oooh burn.

Mafia 3 doesn't look great from the videos I've seen, just the same open world nonsense that the industry have been churning out for years now.

I typed out a big response and then tapped the wrong button on my phone, so in summary:

Mafia 3 could pull it off, but it has a risk of being assassin's creed (stale old mechanics in a pretty new environment).

Battlefield 1 is likely to disappoint. Not by being a bad game, but just by not being anything different enough. The single player is actually more exciting for me because I'm hoping for an engaging narrative. The MP on the other hand just looks like more of the same, just with some different era weapons and vehicles. It takes a lot to get me hard these days, and I don't think Bf1 is going to break any boundaries.

Every new game on pc disappoints me these days. I need to get myself a console and a 4k oled hdr, it's the only way to play games at launch without the buggy mess we get day in day out on PC.
