What good strategy games are out there atm?

I actually like Supreme Commander 2 - I think that the game has been scaled back a lot from the first, and certainly has it's short comings, but it does well in providing a shorter experience. The online battles typically last between 20 mins and an hour and a half.

I would recommend giving it a go.

I've been having problems recently with Steam. I keep buying games on offer and don't seem to play any of them properly but then waste the weekend on a 28 hour game of Civ4 (bank holiday, 28 hours in 3 days... apparently it rained outside?).

Civ4 is the ultimate, i just fancy a go game. Even though i have had it years every now and then i just get the urge. Brilliant game can't wait for Civ5.

I have recently pretty much quit end game raiding in wow and trying to get to prestigue level 10 in modern warfare 2 with all titles unlocked and plan to actually finish some single player games for a change, starting with the HL2 series. I have about 30 to get through!

Dawn of War 2 and Company of heroes are there, i have had a quick bash but not enough to be able to comment.

Empire total war I really did not get into though i loved Medievil.

I tried the settlers 7 demo, never played a settlers game and it really didn't grab me.

Used to love Red Alert, Age of Empires, those were the days, maybe im old and jaded now.

Oh and homeworld 2 seemed awesome even though i did not get that far.

PS that GalCiv blog was entertaining!

You just earned impulse £6.91... Half way through reading the blog, I decided to try the demo and I've just bought it ;) Ta mate

same i bought it too yesterday! i copied a tactic from the blog, attack their ships to wage war and make them pay for peace HAHAHA. I just found a cluster of 4 planets in the same solar system habitable WOOT!!!!!!!!!! Right next to my arch enemy too.

Another vote for Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising - just finished CR last night actually.

Great style of RTS gameplay [similar to Company of Heroes] and an excellent story line. You do not need to know any of the Warhammer 40K story to enjoy it.

Although I also agree Civ 3 and 4 are really hard games to put down. It is always "oh, just 10 more minutes while I build xxxx"

Another vouch for Dawn of War 2. I've only just started the multiplayer. Since I suck, it was really nice to see a newbie-training group on Steam for it. A much nicer introduction than the usual ~2 weeks of constant stompings before you pull off a win :D
