Hi,

I have just recently rma'd my current card (x1900xt) as it developed a fault, overclockers are kindly going to refund me the price of the card so i will have about 300 to spend on a new card.

I have been out of the graphics card sceen for a while so what do you reckon i should get for about 300?

atb,
Greg

Either GTX or 2900XT and use the saved £80 on some other piece of kit? 500GB harddrive? X-Fi soundcard?

Those T7900 speakers from Creative are very good for their price. You could get those and the X-Fi soundcard and a 2900XT for around £300.

EDIT: Actually the three of them are £350 with VAT and postage :o

Forgot about the dang VAT.

512mb, the 1gb is barely any faster afaik. Although saying that the 8800GTS 640mb is both cheaper and pretty much the same speed.

Nah cheapest GTS 640 is the exact same price as a 2900XT now, minus a few pennies.

I'd go with the 2900XT over GTS any day. GTS beats it in some games but 2900XT beats the GTS in others. And the 2900XT has a lot of maturing to do so it can only get better. Can't wait for some real DX10 benchies so we can put the matter to rest once and for all.

Well I didn't say "a hell of a lot" I said "a lot"

but..

The drivers that are coming out (apart from 7.7s, don't know what they were thinking) seem to be making them better and better. There's no arguing that a card can improve its performance with better drivers.

Look at how bad the 8800 was before decent drivers came out for them. Lots of crashes and glitches and slowdowns all over the place. Now they are a mature card that's reached the peak of their performance. We can only hope for the same development with 2900XTs.

I'm not sure why you think this won't happen as it's happened with just about every other card to date.

As u well know from the sounds of it how can a card with drivers around a few months stand up to one thats had them out in the maket place being hard tested by the general public for a year it should not but it does so his comment was fair if u ask me.Ye i am a 2900 fan boy as i own one but by the sounds of your comment your a niv fan boy .But please tell it as it is not how you think/would like it to be.

I'm no fanboy of either brand though i'm sure it's easier for you to assume that (saves you thinking too hard), but if you think that drivers are going to massively improve performance before the next gen come out then you're either a) an owner or b) mistaken. Probably both. The main problems are architectural.

P.S. Please write in English like the rest of us. :D
