What happened to lager?

Try Yon Helles from Ossett Brewery, £22 for 12 500ml cans, just spent a weekend getting through a few at a real ale festival.

Camden Hells is really nice as well, also Guinness Hop House lager is a good one.

I have a Sub at home and have just bought 8 subs of Affligem 6.7% I had one as a tester and it's really nice.

Just bought a can of Camden Hells lager to try as it was the only thing the shop sold out of all recommendations here.

Never really liked the lagers you get in this country, all much the same.

If I do drink lager these days, it's always Bavarian Helles of some description....the best of which is Augustiner imo. Brings back memories of many sunny evenings spent on the banks of the Rhine!

I am a bit partial to the taste of Franziskaner Weissen, but can't drink more than one in a sitting.

There's a lot of decent "quaffing" beers but nothing I would regard as outstanding though I still keep 2 PDs loaded all time

Two PD's? You sir are outrageous

I wouldn't qualify myself as a beer expert but from the PD range I really like Lowenbrow, jupiler and spaten. Then the goose island beers with the PD blew me away plus it does have a the belgium ales I like. It is expensive but I like the way it pours.

I have one of these too :P

Like others have mentioned the smaller companies get bought out by the big multinational ones then start cutting costs producing the beer and quality diminishes. There's still some half decent mass produced stuff but it is a shame when beers decline in quality.

@Rotty You ever thought of brewing?

I sometimes contemplate something like the MiniBrew

Enough variety to have 3 kegs on the go. I'm going to consider it when i move to Spain i think as craft beer hasn't really hit over there yet.

I have noticed with lager - it tastes better in the country it came from.

Some stuff I never drink here, I drink there. One prime example is San Miguel. If I see craft lager on sale in bar, I get a bottle. In Cordoba, there's a craft lager range called Cordobeer

Going to Valencia region in Sept - probably more beers
You only like San Miguel when you are in the Philippines?

I'm liking Estrella, imported as well.

But yeah there is some really rubbish stuff on the shelves, Carling, Fosters, Moretti to name a few are all generally rubbish.
