What happened to lager?

I have had Moretti in my sub and it's a totally different drink to bottles or cans, it's actually nice to drink.

Try some German beers like Warsteiner or Bitburger as because they are brewed to Germany's purity law they can't have anything but water, hops and barley, much nicer to drink and very rarely get a hangover

I was just going to mention Warsteiner, it's my go to atm and really enjoying it.

@Rotty You ever thought of brewing?

I sometimes contemplate something like the MiniBrew

Enough variety to have 3 kegs on the go. I'm going to consider it when i move to Spain i think as craft beer hasn't really hit over there yet.
Tried it twice, once reasonably OK (my missus would argue about the state of the kitchen) once undrinkable

I believe it can also change flavour when brewed in other locations than where it originated.
We had a strike years ago at a Fremlins brewery and our Heineken was brought in directly from Holland which had a much higher gravity and much better taste than the UK brewed version.

Adnam’s Dry Hopped Lager. Thank me later.
Tried this?

Here in Austria, domestic beers dominate the market.

We have the same purity laws as Germany, but to be honest the local beers all seem a bit so-so.

Ottakringer (often considered unpleasant locally but the Helles is ok)
Wieselburger (I like this)
Gösser (unremarkable, pleasant enough, expensive)
Stiegl (cool name and brand, somehow produce a large range of unpleasant lagers. Their "Goldbrau" genuinely doesn't taste of anything)

Tbh I prefer nipping over to Slovakia for some Krusovice, Zlaty Basant, Pilsner Urquell or even something like Kozel.

Kozel!

I used to really like that when they started doing it in Wetherspoons over here, were talkin a good 10+ years ago tho
Remember that and Koppaberg Pear (before it went poor) being £1.50 a bottle, many nights were spent destroyed by the goat haha

They stopped dong kozel and koppaberg went the way of super sweet crap

This isn't a new thing I appreciate, but drinking a bottle of Grolsch, the posh one with the swing top cap, and it's rubbish.

I remember Grolsch being really good, as well as others.

Seems at some point, the lager you get in this country changed. It stopped being the actual product, and ended up as some fake mass produced ********, under licence from the original brand?

If you look at the cans/bottles seem to be brewed in about 1 of 5 locations in the UK, and is basically the same thing with a different label.

Admittedly this was about 15 years ago, but when I lived in London the local off licenses would sell the actual stuff, probably because they were importing it in the back of vans from France maybe, but completely different stuff and so much better.

Last time I had Grolsch in these posh bottles it was the original lager, seems even this is now the mass produced ****.

Can you still buy the original product in the country anymore?
I totally agree with you.

Grolsch used to be my all-time favourite beer. The 5% one was amazing.

Now you can only get the 4% pils in shops which is horrid. It's such a shame. I really miss it, but I get the feeling it's never coming back.
