What happened to proper cats?

In days of yore, it seemed a good number of cats had lost an eye or an ear, or both. From memory, all 1970s cats were either black and white, or black or white.

Nowadays, cats seem uniformly well groomed with interesting coats, in all colours.

I can't recall the last time I saw a cat with a missing eye, although I am told my daughter's friend's cat has only three legs, which seems to just be trying too hard.

Has anyone seen a one-eyed or one-eared cat recently? And if so, was it called "Sooty"?

A lot of them probably lost them in fights with wildlife. Badgers, foxes etc. Seeing as we have a lot less wildlife it would explain fewer injuries.

I mean... Maybe? But both my cats had nicked ears, scars on their noses, all sorts, and I grew up in Zone 2 London. Before the foxes turned up too.

Cats fight each other.

Not sure how old you are but we certainly had them in muswell Hill 30 years ago.

Probably because if someone's cat stays outside for longer than 30 minutes they post 'please help me find my pussy' all over Facebook groups in a panic. Cats suck but I wish some of the local ones would grow some cat balls and fight off the local rats who are also a problem because the cats don't stay out on the streets causing trouble these days.

My great grandmother used to feed stray cats in her house.

Some of them were wild. If you went in to the front room to sit down you'd just hear a hissing and that long meow some make.

They would also hide in and around furnature too. They jumped out at a few people.

But they never did anything to my great grandmother.

You know what, I was out walking today and you know what, I had exactly the same thought as well.

What a coincidence this thread was started!

It seems that all modern cats are weak, probably due to health and safety gone mad, or something.

My previous cat was a one eared white tom, with a very aggressive temperament.

The current one might as well be a beanbag.
