I have been accused of hitting a pedestrian who ran out in front of me as I was driving and obviously driving away from the scene.

The police came round as she apparently has a graze on her leg where my car supposedly hit her.

Complete lies, no way could I have hit her and I'm pretty a) I'd have heard it and b) I'd have damaged my car. The police asked me for a statement which I gave them. They checked my car, no damage and said I'd get a letter in two weeks.

There is no CCTV and no witnesses so her word against mine.

I got a letter saying saying it has been placed on file
giving a reference number incase of legal action.

What happens now? It sounds like a scam for some kind of personal injury claim.

No mention of a charge.

The police said they had to make an enquiry as I have been accused of hitting a pedestrian and 'doing' one.

They said it was voluntary and was I happy to continue.

Wouldnt worry too much your word against hers, injured leg could have happend anywhere you have no damage on your car

I had some scummy member of society try to claim I'd reversed into them whilst they were on a bicycle. This supposedly happened on a part of a local estate which I hadn't visited that day (or since come to think of it).

I had allegedly parked up against a row of shops (that have off road parking, perpendicular to the road and footpath), then reversed straight out into him. The only weird thing about the whole escapade was that I had been a couple of roads over, picking up a friend. So it was almost as if I'd been seen, decided that I was going to be his target, then a story made up and phoned into the police. Utterly bizzare.

They visited my home address only to be told that I was out, they then came looking for me and finally found me (after some telephone liaison) waiting for them in a train station car park, some 10 miles away.

Copper took a look around my car, noted that I had reversing sensors (back in the BMW here), noted that the car was dirty (and there was no sign of anything rubbing the dirt away, or a rushed attempt to wash away any evidence), and then told me that no further action was to be taken against me (the other guy a different matter).

I'm surprised they haven't written it off, and even more surprised that they have put it on your file. Seems to suggest that they aren't going to immediately drop it.

I can't see how she has a leg to stand on.

They can't prove I was supposedly speeding.
They can't prove I hit her and there is no damage to my car.

At the end of the day she ran out in front of me.

The letter says it has been put on file and the reference is incase insurers have been notified. Basically a generic letter they send out for any RTC it seems.

The copper who came round said it's now up to them to prove I hit her. If they can he said I'd be looking at either a driver improvement day as it's my first offence or 6 points and fine.

So what exactly happened, she ran out in front of you, you swerved out of the way then drove off?

Unless they have any other witnesses I can't really see anything coming of it, although you never know - I've heard of weirder things!

I have approached round a corner and she has darted across the road in front of me. As I have approached her she has started mouthing off at me so I just carried on driving towards her at about 20/25 mph (she's standing still in the middle of the road) and then I've gone over the white lines onto the other side of the road and around her.

She said I was driving erratically and tried to run her over and that she 'had to jump out of the way'.

It's unbelieveable.

* Leaving the scene of an accident
* Not telling the police within 24 hours of having an accident.

each one 6-9 point min, and x hundred quid fine. better hope she doesnt have a witness. i got done in similar circumstances to you about 10 years ago.

I think the key point you are missing is there has to be an "accident" in order for him to leave the scene or tell the police.

Gobby cow didnt like being faced down after wondering out in the road.

Ill be honest I tend to just keep going at people who wonder into the road as well, its natural selection, they choose to wonder infront of 1250kgs of metal travling at speed, they accept the consequences of their actions.
