What happens now?

Suppose I got hit by a car last night aswell.

Reg was G18 WTF.

Some idiot in a porsche driving too quick.

I am emotionally scarred, my best friend saw it happen.

Is this grounds for court? Really?

If you had a corroborating statement then very possibly, especially if the driver of the car admits to being in the area etc.

What if you were actually hit by a car which drove off? Surely you'd want that to be properly investigated?

That isn't hard. Find a car that was in the local area and claim it was them.

I can't actually believe it is that easy.

Of course I would if I actually got hit. But this women is clearly trying it on. Surely Police can sniff out someone who are telling porkies on the spot? I have seen enough road wars/traffic cops/police interceptors and they do that all the time!

Or do the police just take anyones word as gospel?

My advice is also don't go into too much detail on an internet forum, it will do you no favours. Seek legal council, if the case is as sound as you suggest then I suspect costs will be awarded. Be wary if she tries to settle out of court and insist on your time in court if this is the case would be my advice. Often people push these sort of things (if they are frauds, I make no judgement either way) to try and get a settlement and then if they don't they never appear in court. However you need to seek legal advice and I suggest find a local lawyer of good repute and have 30 minutes with them which often will be free or for minimal fee.

My thoughts entirely. She apparently said that I drove straight towards her at high speed.

Complete and utter crap!

you drove towards her at high speed and managed to graze her leg?

thats one tough woman.... hit my a speeding car what only grazes her leg and she is able to make a not of the number pate

Jesus, this is why I have a car camera, for crap like this !

A camera showing you not overtaking on the wrong side a road would have blown this whole operation up !

maybe everyone should stick a web cam on their dash...

it should look cheap enough not to be worth breaking the windows to steal, but if you have an incident you can tell the other party "dont worry its all on camera" so they are not so likely to lie...

are there small cheap camera's you can mount in cars? (without hooking up to a pc / laptop)

This was mine in the E46, same place in the E90 now.

Connects to fusebox, starts recording on to my sd card in there once ignition is on.

It's called a roadhawk.

It's useful for making sure dealers don't mess around.

My £15 insurance legal cover saved me from losing out when a taxi driver ran me and my motorbike over one morning in Preston. No witnesses for me, a few fabricated ones for him but a barrister sent in my defence. No police or charges involved mind you, just an small claims dispute, but it was worth using all day long. I would definitely pursue that avenue.

Has nobody looked at it from the pedestrian point of view ?

The impression of the incident I have gleaned from the OP is...

The pedestrian is (legitimately) crossing a side road precisely where they should cross the road. Car turns into side road and does NOT give way scaring the bejesus out of pedestrian.

Yes a car/motorised vehicle MUST give way in this scenario, that's what that single broken white line means. (If the pedestrian is already crossing when you arrive)

Remember..It is a PUBLIC HIGHWAY not a CAR road.

Of course it is a bit rough she's put in this claim against you but I bet you don't do that again huh ?

I'd have simple given you the "You twathead" look !!

Guess you didn't get the stop, look, listen lesson at school?

If the pedestrian started crossing BEFORE the car arrived the Car / vehicle MUST give way.

People don't push that right because being in the right doesn't bring you back from the dead

I guess YOU didn't read the Highway Code

Try it.. You'll be surprised.

If a car was travelling at 50 mph, I'm pretty sure I would have heard it coming, bend or not.
