What happens to your Steam games when you die?

Let's get this back to the matter at hand.

Edit: removed reference to a now-deleted post. Don't know what was said in the other one, but thank you mods.

Jesus some of the comments in this thread.

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation Ryan0r, sounds awful :(

Try emailing Gabe Newell directly.

I'm not saying that he could sort something out for you or that he will even reply (although he did reply to me when I quizzed him about learning game development).

It's worth a go and you could get an absolute final answer to the question.

I would try emailing Gaben too, or maybe post the question in on some of the subreddits where he posts himself https://www.reddit.com/user/GabeNewellBellevue/

If anything you might get an answer why it's not possible at least.

I haven't really got anything to add here other than to just say how sorry I am. :(

I keep thinking of typing out something else but I really can't find the words.

Crap news but...and I hope this doesn't offend you seem to have a great attitude. Some refreshing responses from you! Can't add anything other than maybe give someone all your details?

Wish you all the best.

Wishing you well.
It's always easy to forget that the names we see on here regularly are all real people with real lives. Threads like this are an all too timely reminder of such a thing.
Do the things you want to do, see the people you want to see, and tell people what you want to say.
:)

Thank you all sincerely for the support and kind words, it really does mean a lot.

I've sent a message to Valve (from this page: http://www.valvesoftware.com/company/people.html) to ask specifically about my original question, can un-played never-installed games be made giftable, and what am I allowed and not allowed to do with my account when I die, and can/do they enforce situations such as leaving your login details to someone. We'll see if Mr Newell gets back to me in time...

Sorry to hear this Ryan. - I have some contacts within Steam, so will see if they can get in contact with the higher ups.

EDIT: Removed. Wrong bloody thread.

I'd like to leave my steam library to my lad. Although seeing as he uses it more than I do, and paid for most of the games on there, perhaps its his already. Definately one to think about though!

PS Your replies to alternative medicine suggestions are to be applauded.

I was thinking about cannabis oil.

I can understand about your denial about billions being spent, but at the end of the day if this stuff doesn't work what will you do?

I might add that alternative medicine has its merits as well as conventional medicine .

I know this can work, for some, on some kinds of cancer. My friends father was cured of stage 4 cancer after being given just weeks to live, before he was then taken by pneumonia. While not wanting to give you any kind of false hope, I think you have nothing to lose by trying if you have not already.

Wishing you a life bud :)

Sorry to hear about your health Ryan0r.

You should do the same things my late dad did when he died of bladder cancer in December 2014.

He had a black book as Christmas present back in 2004 to write down for record after had a stroke in summer 2004, he wrote in all usernames and passwords for many websites, emails etc, He used Microsoft Live Mail to accessed Virgin Media emails on his laptop.

A day later after my dad death, mum registered his death and received death certificates, she notified Virgin Media, banks and others and they transferred all dad accounts to bereavement team. However I was still able to watched Virgin Media channels and still accessed both my and my dad web mails from my dad's Virgin Media account. About 2 weeks later mum received a letter from Virgin Media confirmed that dad's Virgin Media account is deactivated and advised us to backup all my and my dad emails until all email addresses in dad account will deactivated after 90 days.

A month later after mum registered with Virgin Media, I was busy backup all dad and my old emails, went to all websites to switched my old email address to new address under my mum account. After 90 days passed, I logged in Virgin Media web mail with dad and my old email addresses and I was very sad to see a message confirmed that the account was disabled from my desktop PC so I was no longer accessed dad and my old email address's web mail.

6 months later, my mum's lawyer dealt with my late dad's estate asked for more information that we probably missed after send all documents and emails to them. I opened my dad laptop to checked all his emails but when I opened Live Mail, I was stunned to see it downloaded thousands new emails from Virgin Media server, I thought my dad email account was supposed to be deactivated and all emails to be deleted from server. After downloaded all emails, I closed it and opened browser to logged in Virgin Media web mail but greeted with message said account is disabled. Hmmm, tried again few hours later and I still get all dad new emails from server! I installed Live Mail on my desktop and entered my old Virgin Media email address and password then I was surprised to see it downloaded thousands of emails dated from Dec 2014 to Aug 2014. Wow interesting!

I tried accessed my dad's Steam, GOG and Origin accounts but it required to verify accounts, I entered my dad old Virgin Media email and surprised to see Steam, GOG and Origin verification emails reached inbox then I clicked links to gained access all accounts that still got free games in libraries so it was not deleted or deactivated! I downloaded Steam app on my dad's Android phone to used Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator, it worked fine.

Surprised my dad android phone still able to top up with dad's 3 PAYG sim card and his google account worked still downloaded app updates, his Virgin Media emails, his Facebook profile, Paypal, Origin, GOG and Steam still worked today and able to accessed all dad's games libraries in 2017 nearly 3 years later after dad passed away.

Digital life is an interesting one for certain; FB, instgram, steam etc.. I guess the only thing that ties steam down to an individual is the registered email address? Can you not change that to a person you choose to take on the account, then once done, change the user name? I'm just guessing.

On a more serious note, I'm sorry to hear of your news. I can't begin to imagine what you are going through right now.

:(

Sorry to hear this Ryan, never really spoken to you but wanted to post. I'm aware of a number of people who have been diagnosed with various cancers over the years seem to find better and possible treatment options over in Germany. Was wondering if you had looked if there were any possible options to try over there?

I'll donate later tonight when I can do so, but having a quick look on google found this:
