What have you done to your car today?

Its working. Found it amusing that the only payment method it would allow for a replacement licence was card... Yeah great thanks, most people keep their credit/debit card in the same wallet as their drivers licence, so funnily enough, I cancelled my cards already!

Well tomorrow actually, but the OEM exhaust on my Corsa (just over 10 years old) finally giving up the ghost. Sounds like a Subaru, just needs the follow me blue lights and mobile disco "doosh, doosh" (plus me about 35 years younger). Hopefully just a split joint somewhere as the back box looks intact. Right PITA to get it sorted, try and avoid Kwik Fit and ATS after numerous poor experiences over the years. After main dealer couldn't be less interested (they used to provide a drive up tyre and exhaust service but no longer since becoming part of the "Now" group) finally managed to get it booked in with an indie. They'll check it out then factor in the parts as necessary hopefully back by late afternoon.

With the original exhaust lasting so long, got out the cycle of buying a replacement every two years or so!

Had my wheels refurbished by Pristine, went for bright silver sparkle finish looking forward to a) getting them on the car b) seeing them in sunlight

Down side is that I now really need to sort the bodywork out on the car :D

Got ****** off with the both of them, 911 in the garage as needs a new water pump and possibly some coil packs replaced leaving me with the Mustang which picked today for the throttle body to die. Simple part to replace just not something I can walk into the nearest eurocarparts and pick up.

Fitted mudguards it makes quite a difference less spray up the sides. It now takes about a mile after cleaning to be filthy rather than 25 feet........ :D

Bumped into the back of a pickup truck at a junction. Small dent on his rear fender which I'm not convinced could have been caused by my car (it sits too low and he had a bloody great chrome bumper) but I'm not really in much of a position to argue.
Apparently he wasn't too bothered about going through insurance, however I think mine will definitely have to - I'm thinking a new bumper and the bonnet is also warped slightly.

Bumper was a bit of a stone chipped mess anyway. But I am more than a little annoyed. **** sake :/

:(

Is it not just the damaged bumper making the bonnet look warped?

No, it's not in shot, but the middle of the bumper has been pushed up slightly as the bonnet has pushed back into it.

Rather a noob question, but as I'm going through my own insurance anyway for my car, should I just tell the other party to claim as well? Is there anything to gain by repairing my own car through my insurance but offering to settle his repair for cash? I'm going to have to give his details to my insurance anyway, so wondering whether to just give him my insurance company and let them sort it out.

Alhambra went for it's MOT today. Thought it would just sail through since no advisories last year.

Instead, one rear shock and 2 front springs + one front top mount. Booooooo. And I'm going out the country tomorrow too. So today was spent sourcing all the parts, and I've just finished doing the rear shock. Unfortunately, there was only one in stock locally, so I will have to source the other side when I get back. I have run out of time, skill and tools to do the rest though, so a quick call first thing tomorrow to the garage to see if they can squeeze in the rest before the MOT guy goes on holiday next week.

Can't see how it benefits you to do otherwise, but it might affect his insurance a little next year. Also can't see how you can comfortably claim for your own without involving him as you'd need to needlessly skip over some key facts...i.e another car hit that you know the details of etc

Yeah, as I thought. It's no problem. I've let him know I'm informing my insurer, he will too.
Going to take it to Toyota tomorrow see if I can get an estimate.

Grumble.

I know how you feel. Other half drove all the way home with a snapped exhaust. If she had stopped and rang me the center section would have survived but instead it was dragged along the road for several miles!

Eh! Annoying, you'll sort it out! But yeah, I'd involve insurance. It won't be cheap this.

My gf never wants to drive or touch my car haha :) she refused to even be put on the insurance.

Friday someone is coming from the Isle of Man with a truck and trailer to collect:

LSD
Hard top
Wheels & tyres
Doors
Front wings
Bonnet
Front and rear bumpers
Driveshafts
Prop shaft
Alternator
Intake manifold
Rocker cover
Wiper motor
Headlights and motors
Aux belt tensioner
Dashboard
Centre console & tombstone
Crash pads
Calipers & disks
Rear lower wishbones

From me, as well as some other parts on his travels before heading home.

£1100 + about £300 of E30 parts. Not bad.

After that the only big/valuable bits to be sold are the leather seats, suspension, and exhaust manifold - all of which have buyers lined up, as do some smaller bits...

So far I'm on track to make £2500~ back, which is £250 less than I paid for the car... Could have been much worse considering the most I got offered for the car in one bit as it stood was £1500!

Thanks. It has been a royal PITA stripping it though, and not something I particularly want to do again. Wouldn't be so bad if the car were sitting on my driveway, but its behind an abandoned block of flats in Brighton so I have to drive to it whenever I want to work on it. (I know one of the live-in security guards)
