What have you done to your car today?

Perhaps the oil you used is too thin? I’ve read advice to use a thicker oil in older engines, ie a lower “high temperature” viscosity. For instance mine had 5w30 in and it seemed to drink oil, changed it out for 5w40 and it made a massive difference. Might be worth considering?

Not sure about your 0 - 60 figures @Gibbo, the R is undeniably a beast but from my extensive Youtube dreaming I was under the impression that most Stage 3 450HP ones still take over 3 seconds to reach 100kph! Stage 2 (APR for example) will probably be more like 3.5 - 3.6 seconds.

Just to put that into perspective that is quicker than a Carrera GT. Of course it will walk it once you get over a tonne but you can't really do that in this country anyway.

Oh I realise it is crazy fast for a hatch without a massive amount of modification, but not 3 seconds fast. I guess there are some variations in what "Stage 2" actually means, but I think for these its usually around the 380HP mark. There are 500HP R's on Youtube which barely break the 3 second barrier.

Not that I care, 3.5 seconds is still impressive as ****.

Your looking at APR, off the shelf map, pretty good and 0-100kph, I said 0-60 which is not the same though similar.

My LC Video is an off the shelf map, did it to have a base run and its well under 4s which for a basic stage 1 is good.

Next week it gets a custom Stage 2 unicorn map which should see me around this:

Mine and Rick's car (owner of Unicorn Motorsports Development) are running identical modifications:
- Stock air box modified to flow more cold air with panel filter
- Turbo Technics inlet/elbow
- Scorpion downpipe with cat
- Unicorn Stage 2 map and TCU tune
- Vpower99

The times in his video are from his racelogic vbox which are remarkably accurate and he is seeing 3.1 to 60mph and 7.6 to 100mph, after meeting and speaking with him yesterday he believes with a stickier tyre he wants to try and get a 2.99 or faster as that would be quite an accomplishment. Having owned and driven some proper expensive stuff, this Golf could give them some real trouble off the line, its not weak either at on the roll performance either but of course a big more powerful car would have an edge 100mph plus.

His best quarter mile so far in said car is 11.3@120

They really are very quick and my car next week will have exact same setup.

The bigger power Stage 3 and Stage 4 feature hybrid turbo's and the 0-60 does not really improve as start to become traction limited and torque limited but on the roll performance is improved due to having upto 100HP more.

Checked the Zafira - no oil leaking overnight.

Tried the vacuum test, very little vacuum from the dipstick, but a reasonable amount when removing the oil filler, so not sure what to think.

Making note of oil level and mileages and will check regularly to get an idea of how much usage.

Will speak to Vauxhall tomorrow and see if they have any ideas.

I can, the roads are terrible. If they’d properly sign posted the new Westgate parking I wouldn’t have ended up down a narrow side road doing a three point turn in front of an impatient taxi driver.

But... You could have used a satnav.
You could have ignored the taxi driver.
You could have done a slower 3 point turn.

Nevermind. Try and claim for it from the council :p

Did you have a chance to pull the plugs?

After discovering that the distributor cap was missing the electrode for some reason I've swapped the cap for one with an electrode and have the car a drive today, seems to be working now, it revs cleanly and it idles as it used to.

I also changed the exhaust from this:

On another note, I booked in my TTS for a service at a local Audi/VW specialist, saving £150 compared to the Audi garage I bought it from  :D

Nice. I just got one of my local Audi dealers to investigate a annoying rattling noise coming from the drivers side door, which has been going on for 6+ months. Turns out it was the window regulator (or a screw for it or something) that was a bit loose so they tightened it up - so far so good and the noise has gone. Covered under warranty.

Then the oil change was due, so £93.71 for longline oil, £4 drain plug, £10 filter and what looks like £96 for labour etc. With VAT added on set me back £245. :o

Just had a look and already been defeated - Two T30 Torx screws to remove the coil pack, and I only have T30 screwdrivers, and no bit adapter for my ratchet handle, so can't get any leverage to get them undone.

Presume if I could get them out, I would be looking for one or more wet/oily plugs that would suggest piston rings?

Going to ring Vauxhall tomorrow (forgot it was Sunday today), and see if they know of any suggest common issues, e.g. replacement cam cover, but is it worth finding out how much a compression test is first and get them to do that as first step?

It's doing my head in - not sure what to do really, and already thinking the worst with regards to big bills. Any suggestions?

Yeah, or just any kinda of build up on one that's not on the others.
