What have you done to your car today?

Sorry to disappoint but the wanted post on the group is for a colleague at work. No secrets are being kept. :p

Excitement over anyway, its in a big ready to go back... Wrong size housing (not as advertised). :(

What I bought was a Holset HX35 with a 12CM housing. What I received was a Holset H1C with an 18CM housing.

Seems the battery on the wife's car is dead. Won't start, random error messages and the dash LCD screen now goes off when doing anything, even turning on the rear wiper. It fired up absolutely fine last night so a little surprised. It checked out at 10.06v with a multimeter so it's definitely knackered. Fires up fine with another battery and checks out at 14.6v or something around that anyway so the alternator is ok.

Looking at a Bosch S4 or S5. £105 for the S4 or £125 for the S5. Is anyone aware of any difference that would justify the extra £20 of the S5?

Extra year warranty - try Costco for a lower price if you have access. Oh and long time no see :D

https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/ are super cheap. Online arm of EuroCarParts apparently.

Cheers guys. Looks like the other difference is that the CCA is rated a bit higher on the S5 at 800 vs the S4's 720. Original battery was only 700 CCA anyway so might as well just go for the S4.

CP4L are usually quite a bit cheaper than ECP but only seem to be £5 cheaper on the S4 surprisingly. Managed to order it with free same day delivery which is a nice plus.

Tonight, I took the opportunity to upgrade the headlight bulbs in my girlfriend's Kia Sorento after one of them blew over the weekend. Usually, this isn't a job I'd bother reporting in this thread, but I thought it worth mentioning because in a world where this seems to have become a complex task, this was the first time where I found it genuinely easy.

I went out clutching an inspection light and wrapped up in warm clothes, full expecting to be stood for a long while in the cold, getting sore fingers and turning the air blue, but as soon as I opened the bonnet, it was obviously going to be an easy job.
- Access to the back of the headlight was easy; it wasn't tucked away deep inside the bumper recess.
- Inspection cover was a simple twist-lock affair, and it was clearly marked which way to turn to lock/unlock.
- The bulb holder was integrated with the connector and again was a simple, clearly marked twist-lock affair; a few degrees to unlock then you simply withdraw it from the projector chamber...no messing in the blind with retaining springs.
- The bulb holder actually had enough slack left in the wiring so you could pull it out nice and far to give yourself enough room to replace the bulb in the connector easily.

I got the impression that someone had actually put some thought into how to make it simple. Literally 2-3 minutes work each side. It took me longer to get into the packaging for the new bulbs.
So well done, Kia
