What have you done to your car today?

The Japenese learnt a lot from Austin, how to make a car dissolve over time was one of them.
funny thing is in japan those cars are fine, its the way the roads are treated in uk.. salt + thin layer of rust proofing = death.

mazda should really put more effort into to undersealing/treating metals for uk/eu market.

even the new ND mx5's are rusting already! and they've been out since 2015.
 
I think it depends if they're garaged etc and where in the country you live. And how often you clean them under the sills/arches and so on.

Two of mine were in the country from 1998. One of them was rot free, and never welded. The other had already had sills and arches done with pictures (they were naaaaasty!), and I sold it because the chassis rails were going rotten too.

Made the most of the decent weather. Painted the ends of the splitter tie bars black to make them less obvious. Changed the OEM foglight for a smoked one to match my Valenti rear lights. Gave the air filter a damn good clean since it was getting filthy after winter. Also switched out some of the decals for some small subtle ones.

Today - fixed it. Was heading into work and I heard a rattling sound from the bottom of the engine. Imagining the worst, I pulled over and called AA for recovery. Spoke to a specialist about what I thought it might be (balancer chain tensioner, scarily close to the timing chain), turns out it was the fan belt. Recovery cancelled, drove it home on battery power, £8.77 and 45 minutes later I was back on the road :p
 
Part 1 of the DIY fast wireless charging mod is in place, replaced cupholders cubby with sliding drawer one. Need tto put the cupholders unit up for sale as they're worth a bit!

It's quite convenient, I've already got a fast wired type-c cable in there so just need to lift off the base surface inside the drawer, insert the charging coils + connector (taking an existing charging pad apart) and put the base back in. Because of the raised surface, the S10e just sits in there nice and flat as it avoids the curved skirting. I might fashion some standoffs too using Motherboard stand-off screws for extra effect. It will look 100% factory OEM, as if BMW did wireless charging back in 2003.

This does mean that my future phone upgrade options will be somewhat limited lol unless I find a phone the exact same width as an S10e.
 
No I upgraded the leather one and the gear knob with heavy titanium versions. I don't like the leather wearing quickly on OEM as they're both items used heavily. These will never wear, and are heavy in weight, feels good in the hand :o

Took the suspension apart and replaced the rear bump stops on the tt. Couldn't handle the metallic clanking from the washer in the dust guard any longer.



Took 2 hours all in and I only did it because Audi were looking to stitch me up for almost £500. Took a gamble on what the issue was, spent £20.40 on parts and all the noises are gone. That was after Audi charged me £60 for initial investigation plus wanted another 175 for further investigation because the 60 wasn't enough to see that the dust cover wasn't attached to what was left of the bump stop. :rolleyes:
 
Built up my bottom end, Scat rods & forged Wossner pistons. All with ARP 2000 bolts.

Also fully rebuilt the head the other night with new up rated valve springs. Lapped in all the valves by hand which took a while but worth it.
