What have you done to your car today?

I cleaned and gave it a machine polish, as well removed tar, and clayed (as you do). Came out quite well, its my first attempt with a machine polish. Also did the interior and treated the leather.

Earlier in the week i had the wheels off and removed all the arch lining and cleaned all that out.

Needs a new battery which ill be ordering soon. Lots of jobs planned next year at PMP garage, turbo rebuilt with new wastegates, walnut blast, Index 12 injectors (maybe) 4 new shocks, coolant flush, brake fluid.

Id like some decent car mats but have never found any good ones for it.

Fixed my annoying cold start blue smoke problem. When starting the car in the morning I would be greeted by a huge plume of blue smoke. After posting around people seemed to indicate turbo so changed out the core but it still persisted. (The old core was in fantastic condition actually) One thing I noticed was as my oil went down to a certain level the problem vanished and when I topped it up would instantly come back. My theory was that the PCV system was broken somewhere as the 9-5 uses a catch can system that drains back to the sump. My presumption was that during cold start oil was being sucked through the oil trap and into the intake causing the smoke. £68 later and a lot of cut knuckles a new PCV system has been fitted to the block with the associated pipes. Problem is now fixed which is fantastic as I was beginning to worry that the engine was done for. (On 153K now)

This is absolutely wonderful. It makes me miss mine and wonder if I should have been so hasty in selling it.

Rare you see an E92 these days that hasn't been ruined by an idiot with no taste, so good to see a great example such as yours as they really are very handsome cars.

It's good to see you finally get a good car, and the grille does look good. Remember, I had the M5 lower grille on the E39 :D

The colour is absolutely stunning, too.

Why has someone dumped an old TT with dodgy wheels and chav mirrors on your garden though? Can the local council help?

Nothing wrong with an old TT...

In other news, I sold my E92 M3 and bought an old TT. It's actually so nice to have a car you don't have to worry about!

I've never understood this line of thinking and likely never will. I had exactly the same level of worry about things like parking dings, people damaging it, or whatever, with my old E39 as I did with my year old F10. I like things to be nice, the value is irrelevant, I don't want a scratch on £2000 car any more than I would on a £20000 car.

Unless you were worried about it going bang and costing you 10 grand in which case fair enough :D

Questionable? It’s a pair of silver mirror caps (like you’d get on modern TTS variants), and the wheels have been powder coated in anthracite, that’s it!

You appear to like my 440i that’s got matt chrome mirror caps and a modified grill! ;)

Perhaps you are just biased against Audi :p

Didn't notice the mirrors on the 440i. Remove them immediately :D
 
It's a BMW M Performance signature item though and he hasn't gone of those, so it's on dodgy ground. Same as on the TT - it's not a TTS but it has the TTS signature mirrors...

Don't ask me why the grille is different, IT JUST IS.

Ah, you're missing out on completely worry free motoring! Also you still really like your 530i and have put lots of time into caring for it.

If someone scrapes the bumper, hits the door on my TT, I won't get it repaired and won't care about it. If I did, I could take it to any spray shop and get it done and even if it looked mediocre, that'll do on a £1300 Audi TT. In fairness I'd probably just buy a used bumper off a car being broken for £50 and fit it myself.

On my M3 someone scraping a door panel would mean that I would have to research and vet every spray shop in 30 mile radius to see who could do it without ******* it up, then likely pay many hundreds for it, only to collect it and it not be right so would have to go back and be done again etc all while i don't have a car to get to work.

I can also service the TT myself which I enjoy, I can pretty much get four Michelin tyres on the TT for the price of one on my M3, TT parts for repairs are lolworthy cheap after the M3s.

It's just liberating having a cheap car after running an expensive one.
 
I've only curbed a wheel twice. And both times it was a side effect of crashing rather than just a little rub. :D :eek:

Bought the car at 12 months old. Dealer had 'helpfully' refurbished 2 wheels because of minor curbing. In generic silver, not quite the OEM finish.

Put up with it for a year. Curbed a wheel slightly, perfect excuse to get all 4 done properly in the correct factory finish.

Wheel Refurbishment 1.

Collected car. Took it home. Removed all 4 wheels to apply sealant. Dropped one, landed face down.

Took it back a week later, for Wheel Refurbishment 2.

All was well. Few months back got Pilot Sport 4 fitted all round surprisingly with zero rim protection. Few months later, entering a multi storey carpark with those ever handy yet largely pointless high curbs, crunch.

I hate those car parks... Its like they want people to damage their cars! If its not high curbs its incredibly narrow pinch points, tight corners, steep ramps you catch your bumper on, unnecessarily tall speed bumps, concrete pillars in stupid places, etc... :p

Actually gasped at the 'dropped face down' bit, not sure I'd have been able to keep my dialogue neighbour-friendly if I did that :p
