What have you done to your car today?

Not my car, but pa's Dacia Stepway daily - used a Bluetooth ODBII dongle and ddt4all on my laptop to enable the full trip computer that the factory wanted ~300 bloody quid for as an option

Also enabled the dash backlighting permanently rather than just coming on with the headlights, because the km/h marks are small red numbers on a black background and he finds it hard to read them when driving on the continent.

Washed the SRT8, polished upt eh engine bay... after all the bad weather for 2 weeks, amazing how quick an enginebay can get cacked up... however, like new again. Nothing nicer than a shiny car and engine bay... makes me feel relaxed lol

Cleaned the car took her for a spin on empty sunrise lit roads which was truly glorious :D ;) before the next heavy rain showers hit in a few hours

While doing a complete rear axle rebuild on my van this happened...

To say I am annoyed is putting it mildly. Hello front to rear brake pipes :mad:

Not a job I'd want to take on myself that is for sure.

Though I'd probably be a little more inclined towards that kind of stuff if I had a proper lift.

newly rebuilt and painted back axle in and all fixings either replaced or shot blasted and re-painted (i'd rather have done the leaf spring plates in black but they only had silver left when i needed it.

Yeah I used to work in a main BMW dealer so working on the ground is a bit of a culture shock. I'm hoping that one day I can afford to get a garage and 2-post lift put up. It would've made this job soooo much easier.

I half did some corrosion treatment on the ladder frame on my pickup but gave up halfway through as I just can't access all of it practically or as safely as I'd like without having it up on something proper. I actually quite enjoy doing stuff like that but unfortunately unlikely to ever have a proper setup for it.

It is a shame community garages/shared working spaces aren't a big thing over here. Would beat watching euro vision on a Saturday night, that's for sure.

Having a Google there is car workshop bays rentable at the airfield near me but they aren't taking new customers the next nearest is 60 miles away.

I often think the same thing, i'd like to be able to drive over to somewhere and do more work on my own car with the luxury of a lift! Guess the insurance and stuff for places like that though must be fairly substantial, would hope they would not let any scrote in either. Not that i'm not a scrote, i just have a small supply of common sense...

Yeah the health and safety and insurance side is probably a big reason why it isn't more common. There is one near me but looks like they don't just allow anyone to use it.

I've been trying to find an industrial unit to share with some friends but the costs are much higher than I'd hoped.

I was supposed to have had a garage built within 2 years of buying my house but now, 5 years on I'm still stuck trying to get drainage sorted to be able to start building it.

Yep. Its really depressing. In the US some people I know pay peanuts to rent enormous buildings that only a wealthy businessman could afford to rent were they in this country.

Talking like $400 a month to rent something which would be £8000 a month here...

Swapped the headlight bulbs out for a set of OSRAM’s with a higher colour temperature - factory LED DRL’s just highlight how yellow the halogens actually are, I wouldn’t class myself as being particularly OCD, but it was annoying me.

Also ordered the kick sensor kit for the electric tail lift, Toyota has a strange habit of fitting electrically operated things because but overlooking the extra step that takes them from a box ticking exercise to actually being useful. The electric tail lift is OK, having it open when I have my hands full and need to put stuff in the boot without reaching for the button is actually useful.
