What have you done to your car today?

Got the oil analysed. for the sake of £40 i thought it was worth it. anyone with an idea what could cause the fuel dilution?! otherwise it looks decent in my noneducational view

I have a similar (perhaps worse?) fuel dilution issue with the E30.

But... I don't actually know how to lean out a fuel injected car?? :p

It may also be that the injectors are questionable, I do intend to replace them at some point.

Curbed a wheel at the weekend

Wing mirrors had folded in when I locked the car, but they didn’t unfold when I unlocked/turned it on.

I was parked right by a curb and began moving away when I realised they were folded - said to my other half I couldn’t see the curb at all and then crunch.

Will look into a local refurb/repair this week.

I picked up 2 x drain/ fill plugs from BMW last Friday after work for the E82

Received 2 x 1 litres Redline MTL 75w/80 GL4

Going to get it booked in the garage for a transmission / gearbox/ oil change

E30 would be K-Jet so adjusting fuelling on them isn't completely removed from the methods of tuning a engine with a Carb. There's lot's of information floating around online on how Kjet works

Its Motronic 1.3, as its a later model.

That becomes a little easier then.

The EEPROM is already socketed on those so it's a "relatively" simple process. You'd need to buy a spare SST 27SF256 and ab EEPROM programmer.

From there you can read the original then put it somewhere safe then modify and burn to a new EEPROM and plonk it back in the ECU

Why do garages get funny with you when you say you want to "wait with the car" when the work is done

I do trust the garage but i also want to ensure that this particular piece of work is done to standards.

usually because your car isnt going to be worked on first , you drop it off and they carry on with another customers etc.
if you say you want to wait they have to either drop what they are doing or have you hanging around .
often had customers doing it and then getting upset about lack of work on there vehicles, wasnt that we didnt want to work on them but sometimes other vehicles have to be finished or were there before.

got a friend who always would say but you booked me in so mine comes first...sorry life isnt perfect.

if i had had a pound for every day a customer turned up on time/on the same day/week/month i would be rich. too many people dont turn up and workshops cant run on thin air.

oops sorry rant.

if you trust the garage, why do you think the work will be substandard??

To be fair i do trust them, everytime i go in my car is usually worked on there, be it MOT, or oil service etc

If its booked in at 9 then generally they should be working on it fairly quickly

I have never been in a position with them when i have dropped it off and they have not started it until afternoon.

The only issue i have is i know that the majority of the mechanics there are good, there is one or two i dont trust though so would rather my car be worked on by someone there i trust.

re-wind a few years ago when i was using a different garage, i would take it in to get some work done on it, and i didnt actually trust they were doing the work i was paying them to do.

Dodged a big bill on the Qashqai - engine oil leak :( would have been north of £1000 at an independent never mind dealer rates - but still had 3 days left on the warranty!

I don't seem to have much luck with cars though always seems to be something.

Maxton just dropped a bunch of parts for the facelift cooper S F56 so ordered a spoiler cap! Not sure i want the splitter yet as it looks like it will make the car super low and im lowered already!

Scraped it over a speed bump, 2 or 3 times :(

Been dropping stuff off at my mum's and her estate has these tiny speed bumps about 3 inches high like kerb stones. Somehow they manage to be horrific at any speed.

Moving from Michelin Pilot Super Sport on the M140i to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6. Due to a trip to Japan and the rears being in better condition, I’ve only done the fronts.

Its crazy, but speed bumps and slow the F1s feel much softer.

Will be doing the rears in November to the same… I hate having mismatched tyres!

Where was it leaking from that would cost £1000 to fix at an indie? Thats an engine out of the car sort of price.

More than one leak - one of them apparently is labour costly due to the way Nissan has designed/implemented it. They seemed to be throwing shade at someone who'd worked on it previously for improper work causing it but it was sold by their network and serviced within their network (previous owner handed it back at the end of the finance period then I bought it) though the dealer I use only worked on it to make it ready for sale when I bought it.
