What have you done to your car today?

Not mine but just saw one of my neighbour's Navara (similar to mine but pre-facelift) come back on the back of a flatbed - looked like snapped chassis *gulp*.

Slightly amusing as it appeared, the wrong way around, over the top of the fence as I was standing in the kitchen.

Scraped it over a speed bump, 2 or 3 times :(

Been dropping stuff off at my mum's and her estate has these tiny speed bumps about 3 inches high like kerb stones. Somehow they manage to be horrific at any speed.
This happened again last night leaving the estate, even after topping up tyre pressures. I think I'd better see what's up with my front suspension as both sides have scraped now.

Moving from Michelin Pilot Super Sport on the M140i to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6. Due to a trip to Japan and the rears being in better condition, I’ve only done the fronts.

Its crazy, but speed bumps and slow the F1s feel much softer.

Will be doing the rears in November to the same… I hate having mismatched tyres!
Has having mismatched tyres on the m140i caused any weird handling issues? I've seen people say that mixing on the m140i has caused weird issues, even with keeping tyres matched on the same axle

I keep reading this, but I seldom drive at speed or push it.

Ive not noticed anything other than the new front feeling a bit softer than the rears. Less stiff sidewall I’d guess.

That becomes a little easier then.

The EEPROM is already socketed on those so it's a "relatively" simple process. You'd need to buy a spare SST 27SF256 and ab EEPROM programmer.

From there you can read the original then put it somewhere safe then modify and burn to a new EEPROM and plonk it back in the ECU

I think I'll try fitting the refurbished injectors first. :p

But good to know its possible!

Replaced my centre column dash lights with LEDs. A job made needlessly difficult by the Italians' preference for form over function, and their dysfunctional relationship with electronics.

I gave it a quick rinse over and it isn't as bad as I thought under the grime, but not good either - gonna have to get the pressure washer out and see how it comes up as to whether I can be bothered to restore the alloy myself.

I was wrong - giving it a more intense cleaning and most of the lacquer is flaking off :s still not sure if I'm gonna have it properly refurbished, work on it in my spare time or ditch it.

Make it into a mini project and DIY. it'll only get filthy again under the car.

If I stick it back under I'll probably get a cover or something for it.

All the original alloys need refurbishing really but the price of refurbishing all 5 is a good chunk of buying new ones :(

Not me doing the work.. but I got all the parts together and paid for it.. so it counts, yeah?

some before / after of the rear

Basically the whole underside of the car removed, shell ground back, treated and painted. Subframes removed, blasted and powder coated. New brake lines, new springs, shocks, upgraded rear arms, front and rear calipers replaced with stripped, rebuilt ones done by Bigg Red, front ones upgraded to JCW calipers in the process. All bushes and drop links and anything that wears, replaced. New heat OE heatshields.

Car feels totally transformed, it handles so precise. All the rattles and clunks have gone. Very pleased with it, and from looking at it on the road.. you'd never know.

Engine work next now I'm confident in the chassis.

Took a spare battery and collected the new car last night. Attacked the no-charging issue today, armed with a new alternator and belt.

First was flipping the soft top forwards to expose the carpet and soundproofing:

Then removing that to get to the inspection cover:

Removed the inspection cover, surprisingly clean in here:

At this point I hit a seized bolt and had limited tools at my mum's. Quick visit to brother in law down the road for a blow torch and he stepped in. Got the old alternator out:

New alternator in, fired it up, she charges!

Just need to trade in the old one to get my £60 reconditioning surcharge back. Next job: sticky throttle, I reckon it's the cable which is apparently quite easy to remove/replace or just lube up as needed. That and, er, collecting the car from my mum's in London and driving it 2 hours home :O

I run Super sports on the back and PS4's on the front of mine and its fine, just need to get some heat into the backs and its a pretty sticky tyre. No weird issues even at high speed but i did stick with Super Sport Star rated just because i know the compound is slightly different from star rated to regular super sports.

In the process of making a diffuser kit to go on the back of my Mini SE, the back is just missing something. It's so bland and boring! Got a template made but not sure on the fin spacing yet. Once i get that down i will CNC a mock up that i can bolt on and work out the tolerances from there. Using the existing screw holes to bolt it on and the C section of the Fin to grip onto the lower part of the diffuser, with the help of maybe some VHB tape as well to hold it in place. Just a fun little project.

Managed to clean the interior today.. One handed is quite a task unfortunately.

Cleaned all Plastics & Glass, Vacuumed followed by a Wet Vac of seats and floor matts.

All in preparation for when I can drive again once my cast is off.
