What have you done to your car today?

Fitted a £7 Ali express steering wheel cover. The steering wheel was cracked and beyond repair really so this looks loads better

Cover looks good although it seems odd how, in what looks like a fairly new car, a wheel could get 'cracked and beyond repair'?!

I’ve no idea to be honest. I didn’t take a before photo but it was pretty bad. It wasn’t worn from use but maybe sun damage at a guess.

I bought the car with the intention of just getting a new steering wheel but thought I’d try the cheap cover for now

Royal steering wheels. They’ll re trim the original to your preferred spec.

Topped up the oil in the RX-7. Trying to decide if the slightly-louder-than-normal turbo spool noise is due to the cold weather or something I should be concerned about.

Checked the Coolant level on the Kuga - back to the Minimum again (was topped up from just below Minimum 6 weeks ago).

Booked in for an investigation next Tuesday :(

Still covered with a warranty from the dealer for another year.

Car back from garage :(

They can find no obvious coolant leaks, they pressure tested it and also tested the coolant for combustion gas but can find no issues.

I've therefore decided to start looking to replace the car, as no confidence that it isn't an eco boost time bomb waiting to fail :(

Thought about taking it to another garage? If the car has last some 500ml of coolant in 6 weeks there should be some sort of residue left over. If it hasn't gone into the engine/oil - it must have leaked out. Have you had any sort of work done on the car recently that could have possibly caused an airlock?

Also, is there any white residue around the coolant reservoir's cap or on the reservoir anywhere?

No residue anywhere, no leaks from the other common places like plastic thermostat housing, expansion tank.
No mayo on the oil cap and nothing that you can see through the filler hole.
No obvious steam from the exhaust either.

Not had any work done recently, and no airlocks that I'm aware as heater works as it should, coolant temperature is fine etc.

I've not considered another garage, as I've used this one for a number of years and aside from the odd comedy quote for a few items, not had any issues. It hasn't cost me anything for them to look at it, whereas if I take it somewhere else it'll likely be a diagnostic fee and probably find nothing either.

The only thing they haven't done is endoscope the piston crowns (as the common sign on the ecoboosts is for cylinder 2 or 3 to be almost "steam cleaned shiny")

Not today, but yesterday and at the weekend.. Rebuilt my front wheels that had been messed up by some cretin previously.
Basically whomever replaced the lips drilled the valve hole way too close to the barrel mating surface so you could not seal properly beneath it.

Now sealed and drying so fingers crossed tyres can go back on friday!

Car knows it's getting chopped in imminently, I only needed it to survive until March but I've started getting an intermittent pulsing/scraping sound from the brakes. At worst it's £400 for discs/pads fitted all round but I'd still rather not basically put a fresh set on for the dealer to flog it off with :o

Nothing noted in the service at the end of October, brakes got a clean bill of health all round. Might drop into the local Protyres after work and see if they can give it a quick look over and check there's not just a stone jammed somewhere it shouldn't be before I drop it at the proper garage.

Put a years tax on it

Ten years ago tax for the Saab cost £280. Today it costs £395...... Even with inflation it is 30 quid more. Yet my car is clear to drive in clean air zones free of charge but Mr 1.9 tdi with his 100 quid a year car tax has to pay a fee every time he enters a zone.

GG democracy.

Taken it in for an mot.. And to sort out the exhaust that fell off this week.

I say fell Off.. Its hanging on still but is basically sideways and banging around under there.
