What have you done to your car today?

Go on then, I'll bite.

How?

By having a brand new car that I picked up yesterday. I drove 180 miles around south Wales today. Before that, it had about 80 miles on the clock, racked up on my first drive off the forecourt. So it was actually slightly more than tripling the mileage. :D

Side skirt replacement....genuine Mazdaspeed ones going on :)

No corrosion pleasingly, some have reported early Mk3s as starting to rust on the sills at the rear underneath the skirt, mine seems pretty pristine thankfully but I want it to last. Took the opportunity to add some extra protection though, POR15 on the chassis rail/jacking points where there were a few little chips from the car being on jacks umpteen dozen times, then two coats of hammerite smooth black...

New skirts on....looks more aggressive now and the skirts tie in nicely with the front lip with previously looked a bit out of place...

Previously looked like this...

I imagine it would be quite easy if it previously only had delivery miles, for example. ;)

Nice! How you finding it? As boring as everyone says? Regretting it and wishing you'd gone for a Golf R? Lol :D

I'm finding it wonderful. There I am, driving along at 30 like a boy scout, pass an NSL sign, flick my heel, and the car just launches forwards, burying me in my seat. Suddenly, the car following me is miles behind. Waiting at traffic lights, similar story, the lights turn green, I press the noise pedal, and leave the world behind. It handles like a dream round those twisty lanes, and despite what the naysayers think, you feel perfectly well connected to the road while driving it. Perhaps a little too connected while in dynamic mode... ?

I certainly don't regret not going for a Golf R. The Audi drives spectacularly, looks nicer, has a better quality interior, and by all accounts, the Audi dealership has nicer coffee. Once options are accounted for, the price difference is negligible, so I have no regrets about plumping for the nicer of the two cars.

Much of that is due to a lack of experience of anything else - you've commented at length on how the only other car you've had was a banger.

Frankly after that you'd probably have been posting the same things about an A3 TDI :D

Took the Slowlo for a good thrashing in the sunshine. :) Ended up at Hurstpierpoint, via Sayers Common. Some nice roads. :)

Got my car back on Friday from getting underseal done, alloys refurbed, dent fixed and front bumper resprayed. Gave it a wash, clay, polish and wax this morning.

Must say that's not a perfect repair as the gap is not even. I am happy enough though. My biggest concern is colour match and they've got that right.

Alloys before:

Very happy with the job on the alloy, already starting to regret the colour choice as it took me ages to get the water stain off! I always like black alloys on a silver car though.

Marks gone now (same damage on the other side not pictured)

Not very happy with the number plate surround!

They haven't smoothed the chips before they sprayed over it!

Colour match is good though. Overall acceptable I think.

Car looking OK now, last cosmetic thing to do is to get a replacement front grille. The last owner sprayed it black and it's chipped off badly. Need a new set of plates as well as I don't like the style. The typeR badges also needs changing as they have faded badly.

And the rest of the car:

Love the accord Type R. Had a Civic MB6 at one point which was far too quick for what it was back then. Great fun! :D

Painted my spark plug cover in crinkle black, looks quite nice compared to the stock colour. Its given me a little confidence, I might have a go at doing my turbo pipes, luckily I have a spare set that I can practice on.

Waited hours for my mate to tell me to come around to his so we can diagnose my boost leak Or lack of boost...not heard anything from him until 7 but its too late.. :(

Deleted my stock BOV, and blocked it up using silicone end caps. Once I figure out the problem with my car this should not effect it as my car is running 1.2BAR max. I do have a HKS SSQ to go on eventually.

Stripped and refurbed a rear caliper today - which annoyingly looked suspiciously good all round, even the piston was near perfect.

Then stupidly proceeded to let the reservoir run dry, got annoyed and left it alone for the evening. Time to dig out the pressure bleeder
