What have you done to your car today?

Bit different as I've owned it for almost 11 years. It serves no real purpose it's just worth more to me than anyone else.

But it's not really though is it? If it isn't serving a purpose of a car, then why have it?

You have a fully working 530d. I could understand sentimental value if that's what you mean by it being 'worth' more to you then anyone else. Yet, someone may appreciate the time/money you've spent on it and give you a good price.

I am in the same boat with my scene stanced/ruined 330i.

the E39 is a special car and they sell for peanuts nowadays.
i fully understand anyone keeping hold of them if its a good one.

Finding one will be nigh on impossible anyway, internals are even harder to source original bits and aftermarket won't be cheap at all, but yeah, crack on and fit an LSD....

Still entirely too easy to kick and hang it out anyway with the E30 so don't go planting it everywhere else you'll end up going backwards through a wall.

It seemed incredibly difficult to get the back end of my mates 318i touring to do anything, no matter how aggressive it just understeered or did a little skid. He's a bit better at it. :p

I mean, I've wanted one for a long time, and one came up locally and cheaply and I have no intention of ever selling it. So it is kinda similar. :)

I don't need an E30. The original plan was to get rid of the Skoda anyway and have just the MX5... But then I got the idea lodged in my head.

The 318i has essentially the same power as my Golf mk2 and weighs considerably more...The 325i has 170hp with 163 lb·ft / 221 N·m of torque, it can and it will put the back out. That isn't a "go try it", that's a warning especially in this cold rubbish weather.

I highly doubt it. Depends what you mean by good price. It's hardly going to sell for thousands more than the other E39s on the market.

Indeed. Fox has said many times before that it's worth pittance.

Found your car, Acme. Who got stabbed in the drivers seat? paint should come back, but will need a LOT of compounding, better hope there is still plenty material to work with.

Needs a good clean / polish and a front seat. For £1k it should be a decent buy though in fairness. Tidy it up for not very much and it'll be worth much more than he paid.

for the price you paid it looks like a nice project!

all it needs really is a good clean, polish and over-all refresh of everything and a nice set of wheels!

What I mean by good price is that he may feel that it isn't worth a lot of money. Let's say £500 for argument sake. He could advertise it for a lot more and someone may be willing to pay that. Let's say £2k. That's what I mean by a good price.

Not that most are £2k and he advertises his and it sells for £8k.

Yeah there she is. :)

Can't wait to give it a full service and sort out a few bits and pieces at the weekend. Collecting it this evening. Gonna do the cam cover gasket and the little rubber bung things in each end of the head, then clean off the side of the block and hope that's the end of the oil leak. :) As well as plugs and fuel filter in addition to the usual.

Any point replacing leads and dizzy cap? Guess not if there's no issue with them but they cheap...

And any fuel additives worth a go? Its an old engine and it hasn't been driven anything but gently for a few years.

Friend who has the 318 is going to help me out with a replacement drivers seat and re-trim of the headliner etc. He's done a really good job with his. May also buy his replica BBS 15" for cheap when he gets his genuine ones in a week or two.

Do oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, belts, coolant pump, tensioners, coolant, brake fluid...basically, just do everything that's possible so you know exactly how old all the parts are (easy to fully reset the service indicator too with a paperclip).

Only thing I would advise against is doing the HT leads as pretty much all reproduction ones cause poor running.

No point in fuel additives or anything though, just run it on standard fuel too, no requirement for them to run premium fuel iirc.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Also needs some brake pads with wear indicators cos it has cheap ones without at the moment, and the pad wear light is on.

Had to remove that flush fit charger socket as I tracked down a capacitor whine to that. Under low throttle input I can hear the charger whine! It's faint, but I've always been able to pick up those kind of sounds and it got annoying.

What a waste of a tenner or so :o

Hang on a second, since when are you a MoH?! :o

Also, you could always pretend you have a sc?

Was that a Quickcharge one?

If so, I'd be willing to take it off your hands if you don't want it anymore....I already have an AUKEY flush fit charger, but it's the normal two socket one (2.1A per socket). I was thinking of getting the single output Quickcharge one to mount under my steering wheel.
