What have you done to your car today?

Fitted a new rear numberplate.

Took quite a while, 20 minutes, as cleaned off all of the old adhesive left behind from the couple of physical plate changes (private reg's) the car has had in it's past, gave it a good clay and polish after to keep it all clean as my 530i Saloon started to rust behind the plate. No rust at all on the Touring but I've stuck the plate on with 3M super velcro stuff so I can keep an eye on it in future.

Not so much something I did to my car but I bought my club stand pass for Ford Fair this year so will be on show with the rest of Fiesta STOC. My first Ford Fair and can't wait :D

Purchased my radiator, next in the list - possibly a cat (fortunately just the one). The car just gives up at 4000 RPM which is when it should really be opening up, left exhaust appears partially blocked based on the fumes and it misses like hell at those revs (errors are in bank 2/5-8).

For the second time over the last 4 days I noticed my car's ambient temperature increasing while being stuck in bad traffic resulting in the temperature warning light coming on. Haven't had this before but it suddenly came to me - I haven't heard my radiator fan kicking in for months.

Today I unclipped the fan as best as I could with everything still hooked up and spun it with my finger - it makes a squealing and rubbing noise even though it isn't touching anything so I'm pretty confident the fan is knackered :) Have ordered a new one but have to wait a little while for that to turn up.

I drive a lot of miles (around 40k a year these days) but have been reasonably lucky to have not been stuck in particularly bad traffic for quite a while so I think it has quite possibly been knackered for many months now. It only really dawned on me that you should be able to hear the fan when you turn the AC on; mine would never kick in at all.

Follow up from that. New radiator fan arrived yesterday so quickly put it in this morning. All good now. Glad it turned out to be a straightforward fix.

shall be popping down halfords later to pick up a sidelight bulb for the car later as I noticed the drivers side bulb was shot on the way home last night :p

and driven it to work :p

Stuck some osram nightbreaker plus on the FN2 last night, give a surprisingly good look for a non xenon car and pleased with how they light the road too.

I also put some red interior led's in place of the standard ones in a poor attempt to match the instruments etc, not so good a look! think I'll be purchasing some white Led's

Been having an issue with the Starlet using oil. Absolutely no leaks off the block or otherwise, so on Sunday I had done a leakdown test to make sure oil wasn't getting past the rings and burning off. Happy to say that it looks absolutely spot on, which means my newly forged lump isn't the culprit. I have a strong suspicion that the turbo exhaust seals are on the way out in that case. Not smoking massively, but deffo smoking on idle especially if you've just come off the revs.

Will get my old CT9 turbo rebuilt and fresh seals etc, then swap them over.

Yesterday - Hoovered and dusted, wiped down the interior, sponged the seats, replaced the center dashboard trim, replaced the center console trim, replaced the cigarette lighter and ashtray, replaced the gearknob and gaiter, replaced the rear cup holders, accidentally broke the front cupholder (:p), replaced a couple of switches, removed the hubcaps, fitted metallic blue wheel bolt caps... :)

... Oh and fitted a pirate flag, of course. :p

Unlucky!
Pretty sure this October you don't need to display the disc any more.
I hope that is still happening.

I won't be displaying it after September anyway as I'm moving abroad and taking my cars with me. In the meantime though, looks like I'll have to give them another £7 for a replacement, and fill out another stupid form. Spent this morning doing my passport renewal and CRB check so I've really had enough of filling out forms!

I greatly enhanced the chance of it being stolen by leaving my keys in my front door when I got home from work. Nice man knocked and told me they were there. First time I've ever done that, now feel like a right prat.

went to halfords and bought my side light bulb.... was asked if I wanted help fitting xD nahh.... think I'll manage alright :p

though was a fiddly ******* to try and get purchase on the damn bulb holder to twist it, got the power steering and washer fluid reservoirs right next to...so how manage to bend my hand/wrist in the right way to get my hand to fit haha!

Pulled the rear seats, and all plastic trim out of the back of the car (not easy to do with the lack of space in the back of the car) to try and find an irritating rattle. Did nothing so going to have another go this evening if the weather stays dry.

There is a screw deep inside the dashboard on my car which buzzes and rattles around sometimes. I dropped it down a gap when I was replacing a vent surround. So annoying :(

Since the end of last year the 535d has made a very loud banging noise over speed bumps, and when braking hard.

The last time it went to BMW for servicing I asked them to take a look, and after keeping the car overnight they found it was the rear subframe bushes. I was charged £109 for this diagnosis on top of the £1350 for the maintenance work. BMW quoted c. £1000 for the subframe bush repair, and wouldn't budge more than 10% on a discount for what was mostly labour charges.

I left it for a few months, and after it driving me nuts on a regular basis, today I eventually took it to a local indi to sort. After a test drive and 5 minutes in the workshop, it was fixed - the quite heavy battery wasn't properly secured!

The service manager at BMW will be calling me back on Tuesday. Quite curious to hear what he has to say!

+1 for Prestige Vehicle Repairs, Motherwell Way, Grays, RM20 3XD
