what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Where do you want to use them? With a bit of EQing apparently the Sony XB500s and XB700s are really quite good, but they're semi-open so they leak a lot at higher volumes meaning you can't really use them on a train. I'll get back to you when mine arrive as to the sound quality particularly after EQing, but the Sony XB phones are definitely the best basshead phones in this price range. Worth noting that without EQing they're very much basshead phones and the bass will drown out vocals and trebles so if for whatever reason your source doesn't have any EQing ability then I'd probably give them a miss.

LOL :p don't be ridiculous

These phones are indeed for the train - just an idea for xmas that's all :)

Ah right then probably give them a miss, leaky headphones on trains are the bane of my life :P The EQing thing I meant custom EQs which I'm not sure if iPods support yet. Not sure what closed back headphones are good for bass response unfortunately, but the Sony MDR-ZX700s can be had for £50 and they're about as good as closed back sub-£100 phones get.

You Sennheiser users know that the stand can be mounted on vertical poles and shelf bits? :D

This has saved me from knocking it with my knee on the table end now :D

Pair of senn 555s i originally bought but due to the cracks i sent em back and got the 558s for 20 quid more (total 80 now). They are superior in every way. The whole black look which i think beats the grey. They cushions are firmer. The cups are a little smaller i think but they are no way worse. The plastic of it is a much tougher and more durable plastic than the 555s i.e no cracks what so ever after about a years usage now compared to cracks on the 555s after a week or two.

The only niggle for me is that the velvet stuff, when you have dandruff it doesnt half make em scruffy quickly when u itch ur head lol. So yeah i wish they were more dandruff proof lol if u can say. So better way or "a" way to clean them would be nice i have thought about taking the ear cushions off and chucking them in the washing machine but i probs would destroy em lol. Also you cant take the headband bit off which is one of the worst for getting manky.

Quality wise, they sound fantastic. The bass is so much nicer than the 555s were a lot more stronger and so much tighter. The mids and highs are a bit the same if not a little better.

So theres my mini review of my 558s. Lovely pair, cost me the earth like but im hoping they will last me a good 5-10 years.

Edit - One negative tho is that the cable gets very tangled up with my 360 pad cable. I have to detangle them both regularly and its a bit annoying. Would love to braid the cables but duno if possible or how.

You prefer the 595 to the 650?

I would also like to know the answer to this madness.
Though that said, i think the 595s do better with heavy piano content. But that's about it. I should probably sell them tbh.

for day to day usage yes, because of the comfort. the 650's are just too tight around the head and dont alow as much movement as the 595's. I can wear the 595's for 6 hours+ and barely feel they are on my head, the 650's feel a lot heavier and tighter and i always feel the strain. I found the dt770's also verry heavy and uncomfortable, but they do sound good.
the 650 also have a cable for each ear which gets in the way. my 595's take quite a beating too, which i wouldn't want to inflict on the 650's. The cable is always being run over and caught up in the chair casters and occsionaly they get dropped/knocked off the table.
Sound wise, the 650's are fine though and i really dont hear much difference between the two on my setup. I hope that explains the 'madness' :)
