What Helmet do you own and why?

RX7-GP Hayden III Replica
Because it's sooo plush to wear and I liked the colour :)
It isn't quiet though so beware if you're planning a lot of motorway miles!

The only other I tried that came close on comfort was a Suomy but I forget which model.

Shoei XR1000 - Had a Shoei Raid II before that, can't find any other helmets that fit my head as well.

I have the older version of the V2, and although its an alright helmet its just never really fitted me, i can imagine it would be ok if it fit right!

I always use Caberg, nice fit with no movement, wind noise is low and 2 lids back I found out they do their job :D

Best to go to a shop and try on many helmets and find what company makes a lid that fits your head best, we all have different shaped heads. It doesn't matter if its £600 or £100, or if looks good or looks crap, if it does not fit you right then its not going to be as effective as one that does... oh and make sure its got a good safety rating as previously mentioned.

what definies if it fits or not ?

I've borrowed helmets at track days etc.. and found things uncomfortable, but wondered if thats just part of wearing a helmet or if its a sign it doesnt fit properly ?

HJC - something or other (its in the garage)
Purchased it because it fit me well

I tried on AGV, Shoei and a few others at the local bike emporium, and the HJC was the best fit

It does also come with internal sun visor which is nice
and its matt black (matches the bike :D)

When holding the helmet you shouldn't be able to twist your head side to side in it. Your cheeks should feel squished by the cheek pads. Then tip your head back and pull the helmet down from the chin and see if your head slips back in it. If your eyebrows disappear way back in to the top of the helmet it's not the best of fit.

it's not going to be perfect unless it's custom made but movement should be minimal.

Basically there should be contact from the helmet on your cheeks and the top of your head, quite snugly but not tight or restrictive as it can cause headaches, so I'm told.

I'm using a Shoei Quest black in M with a light reactive pinlock in it. It's a really nice helmet and very similar to the XR1100, the Quest has less venting but this can mean less wind noise, most of the time in the UK you don't need much venting. I've tried on loads of helmets but the Shoei shape just fits me the best.

Probably a good question for the thread.

What's suitable to clean a visor/pinlock with? and a good method for drying it? or is naturally best?

Also this might be a silly question but in regards to keeping it looking nice is popping some wax, AG HD Wax, on it a good idea? Can you 'care' for them in the same way as car paint? (making sure not to use any chemicals that may weaken the structures or materials?

Also slightly off topic:

Which visors aren't road legal in regards to tints?

I just use a cheap microfibre cloth thing when I'm at home, or my neck buff when out and about, the visors are pretty tough and don't seem to scratch very easy. Have to be careful cleaning the inside with a pinlock on as it's not as tough.

I think only the clear and light tint visors are road legal but you'd only get in trouble with a dark tint if you wore it in low light. You can get the ProtecTint light reactive insert as well which changes with light conditions, I'm using one and it's pretty good so far but it doesn't go as dark as the dark tint ones.

No idea on protecting it with wax, mine's already picked up some scratches, kinda goes with the territory (well I commute in mine as well).

Shoei XR1100. The best fitting Iid i could find following on from my Shoei x-spirit.
