What injuries have you had?

Well, I've been waiting 41 years for these to grow back,
P1010061.jpg

you have given me hope! :p

Jeepers, what happened there?

I am guessing he took biting his nails to the next level :p

Seriously though, I am so glad I haven't had to go through what a lot of you guys have done, worst I have had is a possible bruised/cracked rib when playing cricket.

Goes to show what an incredible thing the human body is.

I haven't broken a bone yet but I did mess my knee up playing football, it was swolen to the size of melon. :o

Twisted right ankle
Sprained tight wrist

Broken left wrist
Broken left elbow

Several concussions

Not that accident prone but avoid breaks at all costs! I'm very lucky to have full use of my left arm from diligent physio work.

Jeepers, what happened there?

I cheated - I was born like it mate :p

I had great fun showing my HGV test examiner's (both of them, for Class 1 & 2) that despite having stumps for fingers, it does not prevent me from operating "twin split" gearboxes! - pepole often assume because they need their fingers to do something, because I don't have mine, means that I can't do whatever....

I'd hate to have lost them in some kind of accident, but being born the way I am, I've never missed not having them if you see what I mean.

People who I know who have lost fingers tell me they still "feel" them , aches pains the lot. I don't get any of that, I merely have stumps for fingers, always have.

I type faster than my sister who's passed numerous typing exams in her past! :o:D - Had I chopped my fingers off with an axe, I'd imagine typing for example would be an extremely hard thing for me to do.

Not broken anything but I have been to hospital 3 times for hitting my head.

- first time was as a kid rushing down the stairs and swinging off the post at the bottom and slipping - landed backwards into the corner of a radiator! Stitches in hospital.

- second time I was in France (Normandy on a history A level trip) and we were playing football in the evening and I climbed a tree to get the ball back and slipped on my way down - was knocked out for a few seconds and hand straight to head - completely bloodied hand :( stitches in hospital.

- third and most recent was just a few weeks ago at work where I had a sofa trolley's (similar to this) upper section hit me in the head while lifting it into a larger cage. This time only some glue needed not stitches.

Also had my appendix out just over a year ago after many many years of a painful abdomen!

Yeah not looking forward to that. Yours will be worse i'm sure :( but i was told to expect pretty bad arthritis in my ankle by the time i'm 30 :o

You'll be lucky, i had my accident at 23, im now 28 and have osteoarthritis especially in the cold.
You'll also get the fun of the metal tingling in the cold.

try not to snap those screws, it tends to make some panicked faces in hospitals

What Injuries have you had?

Well I had a bit of a miss spent child hood which resulted in:

A 4" scar just below my ribs from a stabbing.
A 8" scar under my left arm from a knife attack, same as above.
A small scar on my neck from a knife attack (see above).
A small scar above my left eyebrow (again see above)

And a left ankle that still causes me grief after I crushed it 7 years ago in a work relate incident which was entirely my fault :o

On the plus side I'm more mature (:p) and sensible (:p) so no more fights for me!

R420... I was expecting you to come out with a totally gruesome account of losing your fingers :D

Can see your point, if you never had them, you don't have to overcome their loss. You can just simplyget on with life. Good lad.

Grew up in Glasgow by any chance? :p

Fracture wrist a few years back when I was on my motorbike. I stopped at traffic lights (on red) but the car behind me didn't so he rammed into me, causing me to stumble and my bike tipped onto my right side, dragging me with it and as I was holding onto the bike it kinda landed on my wrist. I got up, and I seemed ok, luckily, my bike seemed to not be damaged :) Anyway about an hour later at work my wrist swole up like the elephant man. Went to hopsital and had a x-ray which A&E said was clear. Jusat bruising. The next day I got a call from the hospital, and the specialist found a thin fractal in one of my bones in my wrist, so I was called back for a plastic on my arm. 6 weeks with arm in plaster.

When I was about 14-15 I was heading to my mate (Robs house) with my old mate (Gareth) we were on our push bikes. We were on the road, and due to an on coming car on a narrow road I went onto the pavement around a car which was parked 1/2 of the pavement and half on the road (on the left), my mate stayed on the road, and went the other side of the car parked.
Anyway the guy in the parked car decided to swing his door open just as I was riding past the door. So I hit the door and fly straight over the top of my handle bars and land face first on the pavement, whilst scrapping my face along the pavement. The problem was that a few days before the pavement had been retarmac'd with those gravel bits dropped onto the wet tar. As you can imagine the pavement was full of it and just helped my face slide along the floor. Well the next thing I remember was being in my dads car as my mate had phoned him. I ended up with 12 stitches to my face (under my nose) this was after the nurse/doctor had got tweezers on my face and pulled about 20 small gravel bits from my face. My nose was shattered and due to now being weakened has broken 4 times since (my nose is very brittle now) This all happened three days before Xmas, I had my face covered in bandages for 2 weeks after that.

When I was about 8 years old, me and my younger sister (1 year younger) was playing darts with our dartboard in the garden, anyway I musty have said something to annoy her (cannot remember) as she decided to throw the dart at me. I was topless at the time as it was summer. I stood there with a whole end of the dart (metal bit - 2.5") long stuck in my chest right next to my left nipple. My parents took me to the hospital and an x-ray showed that the dart had not hit anything and the doctor was able to just pull it out! Funny thing was I didn't even feel any pain at any point.

How did that happen? :(
When I was at school, a fly landed on my eye and laid its eggs on the surface of my eyeball.
These eggs travelled to the back of my eye where they began to gestate and increase in size. This led to a loss of vision in the eye and immense agony.
Although my GP diagnosed it as conjunctivitis, the pharmacist disagreed with him and advised my mother to take me straight to Moorfields.
When I got up there, they rushed me straight to an operating room where the slackened the gubbins at the back of the eyeball so they could turn it almost fully around in the socket. They found a cluster of almost hatching maggots.
Luckily for me they were able to scrape them off and treat the resulting infection. I'm also thankful to hear that the GP has finally been struck off the register, although not as a result of my complaint.
