Yes, it would be a great game for those of us who are fans but I have to ask myself would it appeal to everyone else. Personally I don't see why not. I've always thought of Bank's utopia as something everyone would connect with and be mystified by if they read the books, but then that is my view, I'm very very biased!

Take the complete works of Asimov, and you have one heck of a MMO tbh
A bit of compression (Primarily in terms of time would be necessary for the best possible game), but you have the sectors around Terminus at the time of the Mule to provide plenty of entertainment, plus you have Trantor & the surrounding systems, but these would have to be within the lifetime of Seldon or soon after to make the most of them.

Second thing this game would absolutely have to have is planetary based things- Trantor is just too tempting a prospect to pass up (Almost got a whole MMO there without thinking about it!)

Andromeda, the story lends it self very well. A few big fractions nitcheans(sp), magobe(sp) etc, plus all your pirates and small unions. Huge universe. massives of weapons, ships etc. Again should be similar to EVE but fps.
Some sort of roman empire, using something similar to the wii remotes for a fps sword fighting

Some sort of racing MMO.
