What is a good salary in UK at present?

Peasants
I earned about 370000 last tax year.
:P
It's reasonably pitiful but it goes along way up here.

When you see the stats, as posted by someone earlier in the thread it is quite eye opening as to what people actually earn on the whole.

Like has been mentioned, it's very much location and life situation.

Kids, wife, husband etc.

Me and the wife are quite comfortable at present on around 60-70 a year household.

But, we live a cheap life, as in no car finances, little in the way of "subscriptions". Relatively modest mortgage.

Throw in new cars and or a property upgrade, the comfortable expenditure will soon diminish.

Some people can get by easily on 20-30k, but I'd hazard a guess of 30-50k being what is the beginnings of a bit more comfort.

I guess it's all relative to your surroundings. I put value on quality of life as much as money though.

Depends if you have mortgage(s), kids, mistresses, debts and a whole plethora of other things.

Also it depends on what is important to you. Holidays, high quality foods hobbies etc... Or simply paying bills and saving money.

There's no real answer to that question. It's all based on your perspective and personal situation.

I've recently just about hit 100k, if you count future-dated equity arrangements (NASDAQ-listed employer). More like 70k if you only count base salary. It must be well above the national average, and certainly is where I live (East Midlands). But as the sole earner with a wife and 2 kids, I certainly don't feel rich! Comfortable and secure, yes. Rich, no. Unless you're on the bread-line, then your financial situation has a lot more to do with what you spend than what you earn.

Agree. The headline 100k sounds good, and it is a good salary imo. In terms of being comfortable though is just down to personal circumstances. You can be earning that and still at times struggle and have to watch finances, especially with the current cost of living crisis and mortgage renewals (see dedicated threads respectively). When we renew if rates are as they are now for example, it will add about £800 per month to our mortgage payments and we will be paying over 2k. Equally, a couple earning 35k each in a different location (away from London/South East) who got on the ladder early naughties and are nearing the end of their term, might have much more disposable income at this point in their lives.

By and large, people will live to their means. A decent wage is therefore subjective and to a person on £30K then £60K is aspirational, as £120K would be when they got to £60K most likely. You build your life around your circumstances and the trinkets of success get bigger, better and more shiny, but fundementally your spreadsheet still has the same monthly items in it, just with different totals.

Lot of people quoting 35-50k salaries yet so many on strike due to these wages....

So, come on,.you going to tell us your location and current salary? You've already been asked but haven't answered.

If you're willing to ask similar questions, at least answer questions posed to you.

I'm on £60k atm. I could jump to £70k tomorrow but my current role is very rewarding and I'm not keen on leaving my company.

My next promo will likely bring me close to £100k.

Very true. If I went back to how I lived when I was on £30k I'd be loaded, but as the money goes up, so does the quality of the items you purchase. I wouldn't be surprised if the percentages remain largely the same tbh.

I’m not sure. My Mrs and Daughter went away for a week.

Some highlights of my dinner menu.

Fish fingers chips and pea’s.
Triple egg and chips.
Corned beef crusty cobs with brown sauce.
Beans on toast.

I’ve never had it so good.

Do you feel 60k goes far in London?

Let's say £100k rather, as my wife is on £37k. We don't own a house, but live very comfy lives. Last year we went to Turkey, South Africa and Holland, as well as loads of little outings and trips. This year so far we've been to Turkey again, we've got Berlin in a couple of weeks and we'll likely have another big one around Christmas. last year I bought two new scooters, one for my wife and one for me, I buy coffees on the regular, eat take out at least a few nights a week, and party like a degenerate. Our rent is £1550 a month before bills, we pay around £2.5k a year in vehicle insurance, I could go on.

So in short: yes. But as @Freefaller says, I have worked me ass off for it and will continue doing so.
