Based on the amount being paid for other players, and the values talked about for others, he's probably far in excess of £50 million. Van Persie is probably at his peak (turning 30 in a week) now or just past it. So I don't think you can compare Bale to him.

I think the best comparison would be when Saurez moved to Liverpool. Both would be the same age; approximately 24. The difference being Bale is more well known now than Saurez was and potentially Bale may be a better choice in terms of character/prospect etc.

Saurez was £22.8mil; that puts Bale at no more than £40mil in my books.

i remember being 9 yrs old when spurs signed lineker for £1m and couldn't see what all the fuss over the price was. this was in 1989 and a transformer was a lot of money to me

I can't put a value on him as I think football's gone crazy. As a Spurs fan I think he's irreplaceable as an individual player... but he's only one man and if with the money we get for him we get in 2 quality players we could be a better team overall!!
