What is it that makes people hate Apple so much?

Oh yeah I'd agree the 6 and 7's are different, the UX31 is available in different specs. I'd also agree the Air isn't the best any more. The problem is I can still see some deals on the others but the Air is discounted rarely

Spot on. My so called Magic Trackpad doesn't even have a left click button!

Like I said Mac sales are up...percentage wise though they are losing on internet connected machines which also mean that overall the number in use is declining compared to other machines. That has been put down to older Macs being retired and replaced by other devices, quite possibly iPads etc. You can manipulate the figures whichever way you wish, but the Mac is not a super great selling machine and is probably not Apples main focus any more.

What? One phone, the iPhone has over 30% of the total Smartphone market and 43% of new adopters. That's one phone versus the myriad of Android devices that musters 48% of the market. The iPad essentially owns the tablet space with no real competition (Android 4.0 Tablets may change this but so far haven't) and the Mac has 11% of the PC market growing 26% a year (on average)

How are Apple losing out on Internet connected devices?

I wouldn't make the mistake of thinking Apple has no interest in the Mac. They do, it just happens to be the focus is on iOS devices at this time. That's the way Apple rolls. They put all their focus on one product. You will note that they learn from both platforms. OSX benefits from iOS as much as the other way round.

How long has the current MacBook Air been around compared to the new generation of Ultrabooks? Let's compare apples to apples and not oranges. :D

The Mac overall is going up less than new sales...iOS yes, that's huge but just the Mac isn't going up as much. As I said, people are not replacing Macs with Macs per se. So, year on year the Mac is losing out in the internet connected stakes. As I said, you can manipulate figures how you wish, it's totally open to interpretation. You could argue that 26% increase on the low Mac sales doesn't mean much. You could also argue that as many people replace their Macs with another Apple product that's not hurting them. It's very difficult to see how many machines are in constant use, but I'd say that internet connected devices is a fairly reliable way of doing it - probably the best method there is. In certain sectors the Mac is still doing well...in others it's dead (servers? Even Apple canned Mac servers unless you want a low powered Mac Mini server). This debate is pretty good so far, not too many fanbois really...

Good point, but difficult as you can only really compare products that are currently available. Apple have sat back a bit on the Air and it shows...Ultrabooks still aren't right either, both can and will be improved...

It's a setting that you can customise. I find being able to click with two fingers anywhere on the trackpad much more efficient.

I know it is... I had assumed that on the Magic Mouse, when you turned secondary click on, you simply had to click either the left or right hand side of the mouse, as you'd do any mouse.

It never was "the best" depending on what you were looking for really. The latest gen has actually turned it into a proper laptop rather than a glorified netbook. I certainly wouldn't have bought the previous two generations!

On the other hand it certainly isn't the worst or bad, the top machines all have their positives and negatives! As I said I was lucky (and also to a similar extent students) because I saved a significant sum on it.

That's not really true. They are haemorrhaging market share in both iOS devices, however that doesn't mean sales are down. Whether Apple are really worried is another question. They are making more money but having a smaller market share may mean they are marginalised more and more with the big apps being released on Android first (but then there is the debate of the Android download ratio/market share)

Apples iPad for example has haemorrhaged 10% market share in the last year (from 68% to 58% of the market) and will probably settle down even more this year. They certainly don't own it any more lie the 1st gen.

Sales are up, marketshare is down, which makes me wonder if Apples iOS devices will be like Macs in a few years, being a minor (but very lucrative for Apple) player in the mobile space for most of the same reasons Macs are a minor player in the PC space (minimal devices, high end etc).

About 3 months, not much really, so we are basically comparing like for like.

You can click the right of the mouse like any other mouse, but on both the mighty and magic mouse you must not be resting your left finger on the mouse, which is a bit of a design flaw imo.

and as I said that's not the consumers fault is it? Defend Apple because they haven't refreshed a product whilst everybody else has...pretty desperate if you need the product now you have to choose from what is available, not from what might be around the corner. The ultrabooks will get refreshed at the same time anyway!
