What is it that makes people hate Apple so much?

We have the Tegra 3 Android tablets comig online (although some have abysmal sales) so there is going to be competition but I don't see the iPads dominance. Wing threatened this year. Not due to hardware but Apps. Android tablet apps are terrible.

Also four million iPads where sold in the four days after the launch of the 3rd gen iPad. I don't think Apple are worried about market share. If they ever are.

Apple couldn't care less about market share in tablets at the moment. Like android vs iphone, android gets a market share that represents a lot of people picking up a ~£100 android handset which works fine. Go back a few years and that was not possible.

Most of the android tablets people are buying are the cheap ones that are finally good enough to use whereas you had to pay around the same price as an iPad a few years ago to get a good android tablet.

Oh I agree with you but you often get (as we've seen) stories and posts about how Android owns the market and Apple is "losing the race"

Whatever that means.

I seriously considering getting a Mac soon. I have been reading a lot of stuff on Mac forums recently.

What a shower of complete dingbats.

To paraphrase Ghandi, I like you Macs, I don't like your Mac users.

I keep saying this and I will continue to say this. I have owned just about every type of brand of product in technology there is and they all just work.

I choose to like Apple devices because of the following.

1) Design
2) Support
3) Easiness

Year after year we here this xyz bloody stupid ******* **** again and again. Just buy the products you like, use it and STFU. Every product released now is perfectly fine for every day use.

My general issue is with obsessive/smug apple fans. Their continual preaching about its benefits, that it simply is the best and a seemingly totally closed minded attitude to any alternative or that anything else could be better. That is the main issue with apple, not apple itself. Its totally pathetic!

Personally I own an ipad and a macbook pro (however with Windows 7 installed on it) but not an iphone. I think apple design amazing hardware but I dislike the software.. How no one seems to be able to compete with them is beyond me. Nokia or Sony have amazing hardware design skills, why havent they put that together as a decent package.

Yeah I agree with this to an extent. a lot of Apple users (typically general consumers not techies) tend to be close minded. Like probably stated a billion times, it is a fashionable item. People see other people have it and they want it and anything else is inferior.

I use the public transport everyday and I've noticed people who have either or both iPads and iPhones tend to "show" off with their devices. Just my observation from usiing the crowded public transport for years :D

I don't use Apple devices because I think there are alternatives more suited to my needs. I need devices which aren't closed off and don't need jailbreaking. This rules out a lot of Android phones as well. The problem I have is that if I dislike an Apple product or simply find it mediocre, somehow this means I am trying to be 'edgy' by not wanting an Apple phone because 'they are the best'. It then becomes a competition to shove in my face every impressive looking Apple gadget and feature as if it is a crime not to like it. This is true to a lesser extent of Android users as well I've found.

Why does everyone get so attached over little bits of plastic?

From my experiences, it's as mentioned on the first page of this thread. A minority of Apple fans or fanboys, whatever you want to call them, making sweeping statements that have no truth in them, or at best are heavily biased.

I only have an iphone 4S, but am pondering an ipad3 via my mobile provider as it's an easy option. I'm also pondering a macbookpro when the new ones come out as they're quite nice, and would be very handy for my photography gubbins. That being said, the price difference is just insane (which makes me wonder about my sanity as I'm still considering it!). You can buy a laptop of equal or better components for almost half the price than a macbookpro (on a rival to ocuk so I won't link to it, but it's the main rival PC wise I'd have thought, so easy to check on). You'd think you'd get some form of immense 3-5 warranty, or home repair for this, but that's extra. I honestly cannot see a reason for their pricing policy.

Anyway, if you're loaded, or have the spare cash to get one, then this isn't the main problem. The issue for me, despite liking the hardware is the extreme arrogance of the Apple company, and the way the treat their customer base when it comes to faults in products, or lack of any attempt recently to rectify that virus issue. On one hand they blame the mobile users for holding the phone incorrectly whilst denying a fault, and then they final admit a design flaw that they changed software to make signals look stronger (on my old 3GS my 2 bar signal went to 5 over night after the update. Odd that.) and then the virus issue, they did absolutely nothing for nigh on two months.

I can shrug off a lot of things, but when the company that makes your product acts like they don't care once they have your money, it really gives me pause for thought about whether I should actually get that laptop I want (rather than need) and go with a windows laptop that is just as good & more powerful.

Why they feel the need to price things the way they do, is beyond me. Other than greed I can see no reason. Other companies manage just fine charging 40% less.

I think you're in for huge disappointment elsewhere if you think Apple's level of service is lacking. They're pretty much the best you can get on the high street.

You misunderstood me. I know the actual customer support is good, as I've heard vastly more good things than bad about that aspect. That's one of the reasons I was considering getting one :) I was referring to the much publicised, producing of products with faults, then the heads of the organisation fobbing you off with "you're holding it wrong", or doing nothing for 2 months in the case of the virus this year.

Lots of Mac users are dingbats. I thought it was pretty clear.

As are lots of Windows users and people in general.

Being a Mac user from 2005, it's frightening seeing them on the Neowin forum. Especially one user Neo who also hung out on MacThemes.net. I've never seen such arrogance from such people. Some of them go on like they own Apple. Look down on everyone that doesn't share the same point of view as them. I've lost count the amount of fights and suspensions I've seen over the years for people going on like that. Some have had permanent bans.

Sometimes it's like watching certain snobs that have spent their time in private school then see what the real world is like. I never could stand these type of Mac users who seem to think they know everything. They go on as if they work for Apple or somebody high up in the chain and have huge shares. They also seem to enjoy treating people like trash from what appears to be something they own is rather expensive. As well as feeling the need to do so like it's a right.

Funny thing is it's like watching people experience their first power trip even though there's really nothing except a weird fantasy. I've found it shocking the way some Mac users have behaved over the years, yet the more Apple products they own their ego just grows more and more.

At the end of the day it's just a computer. Another OS. Nothing more.

Anyway, if you're loaded, or have the spare cash to get one,

There's the unspoken law of selling beyond supply and demand and it's charge what the market will tolerate and their market is tolerant.

Apple have substance by the shed load yet, imho, still manage to be more style than substance.

By the nature of Apple pricing all of Apples share of the market is high end so they sit pretty and all the after market suppliers are on to a good one because they know Apple buyers will pay whatever and enjoy doing so because it makes them feel rich.

Imo Apple is high end but you can easily buy more expensive and better pc's or Android devices but hey it's a free market enjoy what you want apple is good but imho it is not best anymore if it ever was.

If apple made a product that suited my needs I would buy it in an istant but I doubt they will going on their history so far.

Late to the party but I'm an MS fan purely because I've grown up developing software using their toolsets. I like Apple hardware but I prefer Microsoft software. I'm typing this now on a MacBook Pro running Windows 7.

I had an iPhone 3GS, then an iPhone 4 but then migrated to a WP7 as I fancied a change.
