What is it these days with ugly cases?

^^ agreed!

Used to have the old stacker 830, that was a beastly case that looked the nuts in all black :D

But that blue monstrousity above costs the most money for cases on this site, £500!!! i mean seriously who the hell would buy one of those things, for some reason it reminds me of that dubai hotel designed like a sail, i bet they got their inspiration from that!

Yeah, esp. the Antec 300 and 900 both look ugly.

The Super Lanboy did look nice.

Lian-Li all the way, love the look of (most) of their cases.

The problem is that a lot of PC geeks have absolutely no sense of style or aesthetic. And thus, companies can produce awful looking products. I can count on a few fingers the cases I'd actually consider using. Most are shocking, horrible clunky things with about as much finesse as a Trabant.

And then listen people with even less of those.

I'm sure functionality had important part in design of Trabant but its certainly doesn't have that part in design process of most cases.

I love my Antec 300...
I really hate those HAF 932s
Incipient schizophrenia? Or maybe problem is that it wasn't made by Antec... (who is seriously lacking in spacious high end department)
You're yourself using another product of the same holes and meshes randomly installed without purpose design philosophy.

Its called desperation, when a case company cannot think of new innovative ways to design cases they fall back on the impractical artistic projects.

The Thermaltake level10 is the best case design I have seen since the TJ07.
Modular design is the way of the future!
Nothing modular in Level 10. Modularity would mean you can remove whole parts of the case you don't need or change them to different ones.
And further nothing "innovative" other than that "toolbox meant for hanging to wall"-look in it.
HDD cooling design is crap with first installed drive blocking that vertical "cooling chimney", hard HDD mounting and metal pieces as covers aren't great for acoustics.
Again main thin metal box probably isn't even big enough for many tower heatsinks! (is it even big enough for long graphics cards?)
First you're blaming one manufacturer from desperation when they make case which isn't even meant for big sales and then on next breath praise cheap junk maker from product which is only meant for drawing attention for getting their name at least once elevated above water level of their mudhole.

And if constant change is somehow automatically good thing then why aren't you replacing steering wheel of your car with digital control of two buttons with one keeping turning wheels at constant rate towards left and and other for same to right? After all aren't we now in digital age and that steering wheel is such freaking old relic from the time of steam engine...
We sure have a need for doctors specialized to schizophrenia in here!

While TJ07 is surely great design for water cooling and has stylish, simple look I always like for air cooling there's nothing special in its design or features.

The Lian Li PC-B10 is the ultimate sublime example of what I want from a PC case. That's why I bought one.

I do shed a tear when I see what hideousness Coolermaster produces these days!!! I was always a fan back in the day. It's those pesky, spotty, teenage, youtube account registered, spoilt brat ******* that are to blame.

That and the Lian Li B25, not the ugly "f" version.

Agreed, this case was on my short list until i realised a door would not be practical for my needs - i even like the subtle LED effect.

Had the 'f' version not got the awkward cutaway at the top i would have bought it over the PC-7FN.

There was a picture around somewhere of my bro's PC-7FW and my B25. I'm not sure where it's gone though.

More TJ07 love! <3

I agree with the OP too. I don't think the 800D really worked ascetically tbh, even though some people see it as the new TJ07.

Lian-Li's are still keeping things beautiful though which is good.

TJ07 is probably my favourite case atm, the TJ10 is another nice case from Silverstone.

Agreed Davyboy, Silverstone make some cracking cases and i looked very hard at these two when i 'very nearly' decided to dip my toe into water a couple of weeks ago. I even had the parts in my basket, however, i yet again found excuses for not doing it (lack of time still being the major factor) and have put it off for another year.

This is the case i had in my basket - i came across it in setter's thread as he too is seriously considering water - it ticks all the boxes for me bar the window. Oh, and i don't like the flip down door for the usb, esata etc as it looks like it could easily break being fitted on the front of the case.

/off topic

Is your rig finally underwater and if it is what volts and clock are you playing with now?

what about Zalman GS1000s? I'm currently struggling to find a new case and thought these looked ok?

actually, just read some reviews and perhaps not...anyway - nice thread!

The problem I find is finding a case that strikes a balance between "boring black box" and "straight out of a council estate". Many Lian-Lis (except for the ones Helios posted above) fall into the former category, while most Thermaltakes, the new Antecs and some NZXTs fall into the latter category.

I personally look for something that's relatively subdued, but still attracts attention. Such cases are the TJ07, the 800D, the afore-mentioned Lian-Lis and possibly the Cosmos cases.
