What is the creepiest thing to have ever happened to you?

first year of uni living on site in college. I woke up to hear screaming below by room. There are showers and toilets in the basement. The screaming continued and turned into someone screaming for help. I phoned the gate warden (literally 30 secs walk away). He came round and as soon as he opened the door the screaming stopped. we extremely gingerly went downstairs into the basement... which was pitch black... turned the lights on and there was no-one there. I showered with eyes open for a couple of weeks after that! terrifying.

The only thing i can thnk of is that it wasnt coming from the basement and my ears were tricking me. Maybe someone in an nearby room had 'over done' it and was in a mess. Not sure but scared me at the time.

The creepiest thing to ever happen to me was dream related:

This thread has made me terrified, not cool :(

Still, the non-nonsense dad approach comment really made me laugh :D

That is awesome! :D

This didn't happen to me, but my uncle was over in Kenya on holiday many years ago, and my mum was asleep in our house in the UK, when she had a dream of my uncles facing flying towards her out of the darkness, she woke up scared out of her wits (not that my uncle is a scary looking man, it just freaked her out) turns out that the time this happened was the time he had a heart attack over in Kenya, and was rushed to hospital to save his life....my mum mentioned her weird dream to my gran & grandad who then told her my uncle had had a heart attack through the night.

:(

EDIT: I also think we should arrange a meet in a haunted house, and see what spooky goings on happen, and tell each other ghost stories. :D

I just woke up because I heard something smash.

Went to kitchen and half of a Magners bottle is on the floor, the other end of the room from where it was standing with other bottles.. drink all over the floor at both ends of the room but not the middle.

I'm hoping theres a scientific explanation for this, why a bottle would fly across a room, broken in half (Top and bottom) when it wasn't standing ontop of anything or appear to have any reason to fall over and break anyway..

:\

My stories are nothing like some of the above made up tosh. Seriously some of you smoke far too much. ;) The majority of incidents in this thread are dream related or when you are under the influence or tired or hallucinating.

Real things that happened to me that are "Creepy".

Incident 1

1: Holiday in Spain when I was about 8, this little boy ran full pelt into a load of glass doors at the hotel we stayed at not realizing they were glass doors obviously. He was absolutely covered in blood. Like literally...covered. It was quite a shocking experience for me as a boy seeing a boy screaming in agony being carried through a hotel and upstairs dripping in blood. There was blood all up the walls/stairs and corridors leading back to our room we had to walk through.

Fast forward about ten years to the 90s. English class. Secondary school. We were re telling memorable stories of your life. I was about to tell this story to the class but this guy in my class had his turn before me. He started re-telling the exact story above, in exact detail like he had tapped into my mind somehow. It turns out went for a holiday in Spain that same year, same month, same week, and was in that exact hotel on the same day, and same time and saw the entire incident in full and was also horrified by it.

When it came to my turn to tell a story, I was like...err....and had to make something up on the fly. Teacher told me off as it was obviously a rubbish story I made up. I didn't think anyone would believe me if I told them that my classmate had just literally told the exact same story I was about to tell. I never told him either, as I thought he would think me a freak/lying type.

I'll await someone on this forum to now go "OMG I was there too!" lol ;)

Incident 2

2: Not that exciting. Basically there was this house we used to walk by as kids. We always walked past it as it was in this remote field beside a public footpath off our estate and had horses which you could stroke near a gate without having to go into the private land and field. So we stood by this gate stroking the horses.

One of the things we always used to be scared of was this object in the top window of the house. We always used to see it in the window every time for literally a few years. It looked from a distance like a face in the bottom corner of this dark window. Almost like an attempt to scare off people like a scarecrow. The whole place had an eery atmosphere to be honest. It was private land, the owner we never saw and there were plenty of rumours about an old man with a shotgun that owned it.

One day we went there and noticed that the face like figure had gone. We were grown up now into our teens and houses were starting to be built on part of this land. It looked more derelict than ever and the horses had gone for a while. We decided to climb the fence and wonder up to the house to explore. I was very tentative but feeling daring so decided to go for it. We looked about the land for a few minutes in and around the house grounds. We heard a noise and got spooked so legged it back to the gate and jumped over it back to the public footpath.

My mate looked back at me and suddenly his faced turned fixated on the house like he had seen a ghost. Me and my mate were like "what?" and we both turned around and saw the face like figure in the window was now back in the window. We were a bit spooked but my mate was tired of all this scary business and was feeling brave so he waved at the face like figure still believing it to be some kind of mask, and he also shouted in the house direction some swear word or something. The face like figure moved, the window opened and a man lent out and shouted "clear off!". We absolutely **** ourselves and ran home with jelly legs.

When I was around 9-12yrs old I had two or three recurring dreams that seriously freaked me out and can't really explain them other than a strange case of sleep paralysis.

Yeah sounds like sleep paralysis. I get this quite a lot with a recurring nightmare i have.

Basically, my dream is that i am seeing through the eyes of someone standing in my back garden, him/her/it then continues to walk into my house up my stairs and into my room, when whoever it is reaches my bed and stairs down at me (i am always facing away from him might i add) i wake up half paralised trying to turn around. Quite often when i do turn around still half asleep a can briefly see a figure until i wake up fully. Really quite spooky.

About 12 years ago I was in a local pub (The Sun in Monk Bretton) with the cricket team my husband played for. People started drifting home, the race to the bar for another drink before time was called etc. when a figure walked (or drifted) past and just disappeared into the wall beside me. The woman next to me (who I've got to know well over the years) said "what the hell was that?" Neither of us were drinking alcohol due to being on medication so we weren't drunk. I can't describe the style of dress because it was so vague and it happened so quickly but my immediate thought was that it was male and appeared dark grey from head to foot.
A couple of weeks later, our local paper who ran a weekly write up of pubs in the area, ran a feature on the Sun Inn and did a short interview with the landlord who said the place was haunted.
I'm a logical person and don't really believe in ghosts but I still can't find a rational explanation for what we both saw.

I highlighted your "rational explanation". :)

1) Something "moved" my arm up and down whilst I was waiting to go to sleep

2) I walked up to my bathroom upstairs, walked past the kitchen downstairs and looked normal, walked downstairs 10 minutes later and there were multiple cupboards open in the kitchen.

There was no one else in the house!

But my dad has a great one, which I think he was either drunk at the time or lying. Either way it is a good un.

Made me think of this http://naturalplane.blogspot.com/2009/02/1996-varginha-alien-incident-brazils.html :) Sorry for the site but was the only one I could find with pictures!

According to some mass-media, the creature was first sighted by three women ranging from 14 to 21 years old: sisters Liliane and Valquíria Fátima Silva, and their friend Kátia Andrade Xavier. They allegedly saw the creature in the afternoon of January 20, 1996: A biped about 1.6 metres (5 ft), with a large head and very thin body, with V-shaped feet, brown skin, and large red eyes. It seemed to be wobbly or unsteady, and the girls assumed it was injured or sick. The creature was said to have a strong, unpleasant odor. Some have noted physical similarities between this alleged creature and the chupacabra, a cryptozoological creature reported in Puerto Rico and Central America.

In my early 20's I secured a suspiciously cheap rent on a room in a practically derelict huge Victorian terrace. All the other houses in the street were pristine and likely worth at least £1 million a piece at the time.

The others who lived there were all young guys, students or in dead-end jobs, including my mate who got me the room.

The first night I'm there in September, we were talking in the absolute tip of a kitchen and my mate says "you know we're haunted here, don't you?"

I didn't.

Being someone who has always had a strong sense of the spiritual and following an extremely traumatic episode my family suffered in a holiday flat in Bournemouth many years previously, I would definitely NOT have rented the room with that prior knowledge.

Anyway, there was nothing I could do about it as I'd already moved all my stuff in and had no where else to go, so was ****** off with my mate for not mentioning it previously.

"Don't worry my room gets the worst of it"

He had by far the biggest and nicest room in the house, on the very top floor - he had got it despite others in smaller rooms being there for years longer than him having the option to take it - they absolutely did not want that room. There was one significant caveat - every single person who had stayed in the room was subsequently diagnosed with clinical depression.

My room was a small room at the bottom of the landing from the top floor where his room was and generally the whole house had a bad atmosphere, masked somewhat by the general hedonism and rowdiness of the young male inhabitants.

Anyway, nothing happened until the night after Halloween (I swear on my life this is true). When I suddenly awoke at 4.30 am exactly with a sense of absolute dread in a freezing cold room - no central heating, so it was cold anyway but this was crazy cold. What followed was a very loud noise that I can only describe as someone violently being pushed down the stairs followed by a thud on each stair as it slowly approached the landing outside my door.

By this point I'm sweating profusely despite the cold, and I can sense something outside my door. The landing had 3 doors quite close to one another and to my horror I hear a double tap knock on the furthest door from mine, followed by a double knock on the next door - then finally a double knock on mine.

The knocks were almost imperceptible but absolutely audible, it's hard to describe but they definitely were not of this world. The next day everyone is acting a bit cagey and one of the guys admits to hearing and experiencing the same thing, the other guy on that landing who'd been there the longest barely left his room so we hardly spoke to him.

A couple of months follow without incident, when lo and behold, my mate in the top room is diagnosed with depression and goes to live back with his parents.

So his room became free. £5 more a month for a room 4 times the size of my current one.

I took it.

It was a massive attic room with a giant dark wood frame bed that looked to be at least 50 years old, in the daytime it was fine but just had a horrible atmosphere at night. I slept with both windows wide open even in the dead of winter, but other than that I didn't experience anything until the following summer evening when it was still light outside, a friend and I were watching TV and it was a documentary about ancient Hebrew legends that we were not really paying attention to.

There was an ancient text being read in Hebrew with subtitles regarding the afterlife, when suddenly a loud scratching emanated from the wooden floor near the door, it scratched all along the floor past us towards a frame-less free standing full length mirror which started violently vibrating.

"Turn the ******* channel!"

After which it mercifully stopped. I'd convinced myself that the Halloween episode was a one off, but to have that happen in essentially daylight in Summer was the final straw.

Cheap rent or not, I had to get out of there and I managed to convince my mum to let me live at home for a couple of months until I found another place. I still remember the relief at my first night out of that place, though there was one unfortunate result - I was subsequently diagnosed with depression.

I don't know what happened to the guy who took the room after me as I never went back again - nor do I know what happened in that room on that night after Halloween and thankfully I never will.

One postscript to this is the landlord/owner - a shifty, scared and almost guilty looking old man who took the rent in cash and never once set foot in the house, always only standing on the porch.

This a house that if done up would have been worth £1million, yet he let it out at a pittance and let it slide into dereliction.

In hindsight I have absolutely no doubt that someone had been murdered there by pushing them down the stairs, something I'm certain that the landlord knew full well about.

Woke up, looked in mirror, massive spider on face.

Not really bothered by spiders but it was a bit of a shock!

I had similar happen to me when I lived in Florida but it was a cockroach and it was on the outside of my underpants sitting on my old chap! Not creepy, just rank!

Oh crap, you just reminded me of Mexico, heard something in the middle of the night (wasn't asleep, was quite hot!) turned light on and there was 8-10" scorpion on the wall.

Dad grabbed a plastic cup like a boss, nailed it tail first in to the cup and threw it out the window.

Light off, back to sleep.

Another dream related experience but not creepy in the slightest. In fact it was hugely therapeutic. When I was 10 my Grandad died and I was devastated. As I was the first grandchild we were really close, we were best mates. So yeh I was pretty inconsolable and miserable when it happened, even thinking about it now 20 odd years later chokes me up a bit.

Anyway a few days after he died I had the most vivid dream I think I've ever had. I can still remember most of it after all this time. It was my Grandad, and in the dream we did some of the things we used to do when he was alive. He took me a walk down to the river behind the house, took me to see the horses we visited when he was alive and took me down to his local. There he just sat me down and explained why he had died, it was time for him to go and that I shouldn't be sad because he'd always be with me and we would see each other again one day.

ok, this was about 4 years ago. I was in year 10 at high school, and living with my dad, aproximately 2 minutes walk away from school. Just to help with imagry, http://www.rbhs.co.uk/site/the_school/school_history.php That's the school :)

Anyway, back then, my dad was the caretaker, and with us living so close, he'd always get called if the alarm went off. This could be at like 10pm or 3-4am. he never like going by himself as it was a HUGE school (2000 pupils big) so he'd always ask me to go with him.

This one night, we went up, at about 1am, checked the alarm, and it told us the sector where the motion sensors had been set off. So we went into what was the science department and found one of the sensors, RIPPED off the wall. Abit confused but thinking maybe kids during the day had done it, we replaced it and started packing up the tools. As we were walking off we heard footsteps behind us. They sounded like heels (man heels) and we froze stiff staring at each other. We finally got the courage to stand up and walk, well jog, up the corridor to get out of there. All of a sudden we heard one of the classroom doors SLAM, like REALLY slam, infront of us.

When we approched the door, we pushed it, to make sure it was locked, as we didnt have the keys, and low and behold, it was locked, but the handle was soooo cold.

When I went to school the next day, I spoke to the headmaster with my dad at lunch time, and he looked in the shool records about that area, and we found out it used to be the teachers quarters (Back when the school was a boarding school) and that specific classroom was actually the old headmasters room and he used to run up and down that corridor slamming doors.

Needless to say, I never went back on call outs with my dad again :P

When I was 18 I was walking to the park to meet some mates, then some off-the-hook **** took place and I thought I saw a ghost. After thinking about it logically it was entirely explainable.

Hmm, creepiest thing thats happened to me was when i was staying at a friends caravan in Loch Lomond for the weekend.
We must have been around 10-11 years old. We went into the heavily wooded forest just to explore and look around etc, now we went quite deep into the forest so it started to get quite shaded and dark, this was during the day we went there.
Pretty much next thing we heard something rustle the bushes a little bit away from us, we turn around and at a little distance away we see some purely insane looking man running straight for us, not saying anything just sprinting directly towards us so we bolt, he gave chase for a good 15 mins or so. No idea what he would have done if he caught us.
I personally think he was bigfoot.

I personally think he was a rapist

More coincidental than unexplained. I live in the extension at home, which isn't the sturdiest of structures, doesn't stop sound very well and it occasionally shakes when HGVs drive past.

On Sunday 11th December 2005, I woke up to a brief and sudden shake of the extension and for some reason I instantly thought about my grandfather who was unwell in hospital at the time (on his last legs, as it were). The "brief and sudden shake" was caused by the Buncefield explosion (I live in Hampton, not overly close to the site of the explosion).

When I got out of bed at 10-ish that morning, we got the news that my grandfather had passed away in the early hours of that morning. It didn't really freak me out per se as I put it down to conincidence, but it was rather odd that my first thought upon being startled awake was about him!
