What is the creepiest thing to have ever happened to you?

Probably not paranormal but....

3 things in my house broke last night after I'd used them. I switched the lightbulb on in my kitchen. It blew. I cooked my dinner. Found out tonight the cookers dead. I was last to use it. The shower is also dead. I was also the last person to use it.

Not that creepy just weird how a series of things in my house have broke at once :o

All newish stuff!

Stop spreading your negative waves! :p

Really odd though. Its the heating element / light in the oven that are broke and the heating element in the electric shower.

A few strange rather than creepy ones.

Both my mothers and aunts watches both stopped the alleged moment my Grandfather died.

My wife claims to have regularly seen 'spirits' when younger and was so troubled by it the family sought out a Buddhist Monk who agreed to perform a cleansing and protection and put two tattoos on her back. After this my wife claims she has never been troubled by spirits again. I will see if I can get more details of her experiences and post them up. Oh she also says her brother also has had the same experiences, although, her other sister has never mentioned experiencing anything like that and she is the serious, logical degree educated one ;).

When living in the first rented apartment around 5 years ago after moving to Singapore I would end up laying awake as a noise would be coming from upstairs (the place was like a council estate block, concrete slab and ceramic tiled floors for all units). The noise sounded like someone dropping a steel ball bearing on the floor and letting it bounce until it stopped. The noise would go on at around midnight and was very irritating especially as I am a light sleeper. Some research found others in Singapore complaining about the same noise and others explaining it was the noise of the steel rebar contracting during the cooler temps at night. The thing is that it happened at various times late at night, the night temps are not that significantly cooler than day temps here, it gets dark at 7:30pm and cooling for 4.5 hours before making noise seems sounds unlikely. TBH for all I know though, it could be some git living in one of the flats above us who likes bouncing ball bearings on the floor around midnight. The other two properties I have lived in since moving here have never had the same issue.

Another one is with our current place we moved in to in Jan this year. It is a two story open plan apartment with the staircase in the middle so from the living room I can see the upstairs landing and the doors of the front two bedrooms. Under these bedrooms are the front door, dining area and the corridor for the other apartments and lift. Late at night when I stay up after the wife and kids have gone to bed to listen to some music or watch a movie my eyes keep getting drawn to the top of the stairs outside one of the bedroom doors. I am generally sitting in the dark with only the light from my projector and the light from the corridor illuminating the apartment. What I suspect is happening, in a very logical way, is that although I cannot see the window on the corridor from the living room seat, I suspect people walking along it late at night are causing a change in the shadows and light intensity which is catching my attention in to that general directing and the top of the stairs is the biggest point of interest in that direction.

My son was taken to a Taoist 'medium' when around 1 year old as he was very restless sleeping and would wake up crying very often (unlike our previous child). My mother-in-law (Taoist) insisted my wife took him and they were told there is a spirit of a child who was playing with him and would not let him sleep. The 'medium' gave my MiL a charm to be put under his pillow to ward off the spirit. Nothing seemed to change until around a week later we started to add baby rice to his milk and after that he slept like a ... well baby :).

The weirdest one for me though was while I was at uni around 17 years ago. I had an interest in Hifi and took my system with me to Uni and had it in my room. Mission Cyrus 2 amp, Ruark Sabre 2 speakers and a nice kenwood CD player. In my second year I had managed to hook up with this very hot girl somehow, Italian sculpted looks, slim and very sexy. We dated for a while but when she came to my place, she had the strangest effect on my HiFi. We would be chatting on the bed, candles lit, HiFi playing some nice romantic music (you know, Nine Inch Nails or the like) when it would suddenly just go all strange. It would sound like the music was being played backwards or underwater if you know what I mean. There was no break in the music, no loss of sound, no static bursts or the like but it would just go wrong. It also only happened when she was in the room, much to my dismay, trying to convince this really hot girl that this was a very nice great quality system (at the time for the money) and it starts sounding like it is playing backwards or certainly not properly. Luckily we broke up after a while as it allowed my to meet my wife who is hotter and doesn't negatively affect my HiFi other than shouting for me to turn it down :D.

I am not religious and pretty logical so tend not to believe in ghost stories, miracles or the like although other peoples accounts are fun to read. My wife loves al the 'real ghost stories' type shows though.

My granddad passed away when I was 15 (2002), had a heart attack. I was left his gold watch as his will dictated that he received from Ford when he retired, It didn't work but I put it away safely, thinking I would break it or lose it -- forward to 2009, my aunt (a firm believer in the afterlife etc) took my Nan to a psychic medium show, Colin Fry I believe. My Nan was shocked when Colin Fry approached a section of the audience and described my granddad's appearance and his love for his family and some of his working history etc (cold reading, I know, I know.)
He later went onto to tell her, "The boy has forgotten about the watch". Clueless to what he was talking about, my mum pipes up and says that "The boy" was what he called me sometimes, being the first grandson.
My mother returns and asks about the gold watch that was given to me, I had completely forgotten about it, but retrieved it. My mum tells me what happened on the show, I laugh it off, what complete ****.
I hand over the watch in it's case, and she opens it and she nearly jumps out of her chair, stricken with panic almost. I have a look at the watch and i have to admit, it freaked me out too..it was on the EXACT correct time, ticking perfectly. Now I don't believe in ghosts or whatever, but this was quite creepy.

The majority of people own a watch. Thus the majority of people will leave a watch to someone. A man's watch will usually be left to a man, as a woman's watch will usually be left to a woman. It's classic cold reading. They dangle a worm on a hook and wait for the audience member to bite. They pick a hook that sounds specific but really isn't when you think about it.

By the way, Colin Fry has been caught out being fraudulent in the past. He used to use the pseudonym "Lincoln" professionally. He did a show involving physical mediumship, whereby he was strapped down in a chair and the lights would go down. Various objects would move around and noises would be heard, purportedly caused by spirits. One show, a trumpet was one of the objects being used. The show started normally, but suddenly during the show, the house lights came on, revealing Fry out of his chair and holding said trumpet.

We need Derek Acorah.

Like I said, I don't believe in that stuff anyway and I'm very well aware of cold reading etc. I was getting at more of the fact that the watch was on the exact correct time, rather than the authenticity of Colin Fry lol. I believe it was an amazing coincidence and nothing more, but still creepy none the less.

Has Dolph posted yet? I recall he has had some pretty creepy experiences :o and this is coming from a well respected intelligent member :p

Not read any of his previous posts on the matter but I do remember him mentioning that he had some interesting experiences, and with him being a man of science, that post stuck in my head.

Would love to read some of his experiences.

My creepiest encounter occurred during the late summer (late August/early September) of either 1996 or 1997.

A mate and I had been out on our bikes, and at around dusk had found ourselves atop Pex Hill, the only area of high ground for miles around my home town. We were taking in the view, which comprised of the River Mersey, the Cheshire Plain and the Snowdon hills to the south, the Peak District and The Pennines to the east, and Liverpool to the west. We’d been stood for a few minutes, simply looking and chatting whilst we took a breather, when my mate suddenly taps me on the arm, nods toward the west and asks “Mate, what’s that?”

I turn in the direction he’s pointing, where I notice this massive black/grey orb drifting along, about 50 feet above a ploughed field in the farmland to the north of Liverpool. It must have been a good 2 or 3 miles away, but I could see it quite clearly, meaning it must have been pretty big. It was a non-descript sphere, I couldn’t make out any details, markings or anything, the only thing I could see was a horizontal row of pale blue lights, running across it about a quarter of the way up it’s vertical height. My first thought was that it was a balloon, but it wasn’t the teardrop shape of most hot-air balloon canopies, whilst I couldn’t see a basket suspended below it, or the flare from the burner either if it were a typical hot air balloon. We watched it for a good 4 or 5 minutes or so, saying little as this thing just drifted along steadily, seeming to move at a constant speed and height from north to south. I had no idea what this thing was, I was frankly baffled and at a loss to explain what it was we were looking at, but for a reason I can’t explain I started to feel a growing unease about this thing’s presence. Luckily, my mate must have felt the same, as he said he was feeling a bit weirded out and suggested we left, which I was only too glad to oblige.

I don’t buy into the “UFO = ZOMG aliens!1!!11!!” school of thought, but to this day I don’t know what it was I saw that day, and if I’m honest I’ve never really told anyone I know about this for fear of the stigma that comes with reporting a UFO sighting, the only reason I’m recounting this here is the anonymity the internet affords, otherwise I’d keep it to myself.

Reading this thread and having your PC shut down in a stange manner is pretty creepy :(. It wasn't a regular shut down or a BSOD or a freeze and shut down, the internet page closed and the desktop icons and task bar disappeard just like if I shut it down normally but then the screen went black so no shutting down screen and I got the 'Windows did not shut down correctly' message when I powered it back on .
