What is the daily mail reader stereotype?

NEWS JUST IN - READING THE DAILY MAIL GIVES YOU CANCER.

Yep. Sounded funnier in my head.

Here's the guide to British newspapers:

The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country;
The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country;
The Times is read by people who actually do run the country;
The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country and think Hitler was rather a nice chap [1].
The Financial Times is read by people who own the country;
The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country;
The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it already is.
The Sun is read by people who don’t care who runs the country, as long as she’s got big ****.
The Daily Sport is read by people who don't know what a country is. But they like ****!
The Star is read by people who think that everyone should run their own country, with girls with BIG ****!
The Express is read by people who hate their country, everybody else's country and themselves, and everything in general.
The Independent is read by people who own the newspapers.

Unyielding and delusional.

They want someone to get 20 years in maximum security prison (with no TV or phone calls) for stealing a handbag.

I must say, I find it very amusing to see so many bigoted and judgemental comments on how bigoted and judgemental DM readers are! :D

They want someone to get 20 years in maximum security prison (with no TV or phone calls) for stealing a handbag.

If it is the third time they have done it, Damn right! :cool:

In all seriousness, the majority of crime against individuals is carried out by a small number of prolific multiple recidivists. Give me one reason why the rest of us should have to put up with their behaviour because the "System" does not have the cohones to permanently exclude# them from society once it has become clear that they are not going to change??

(# This need not necessarily involve Prison!)

once it has become clear that they are not going to change??

The problem lies in that with most people this is very difficult to ascertain.

One could argue that the reason a lot of people reoffend is less to do with their nature and more to do with the position they find themselves in within modern society. You could go on to debate whether we coulddo more to rehabilitiate criminals. What is enough and who decides this? A small amount of rehabilitation may be enough for some, others require more. No two people are the same. Where do you draw the line?

You could go on to debate whether we could do more to rehabilitate criminals.

We could indeed, but what always seems to be forgotten is that each time a recidivist is re released to "Have another chance" and goes on to re-offend a totally innocent person becomes the victim of his crime!

How many innocent people are you (Plural) willing to have suffer the injustice of being the victims of some unrepentant scumbags crimes just in case he might turn over a new leaf, this time?

(I don't actually have stats on recidivism rates, Broken down Crime stats in the UK seem surprisingly difficult to get hold of. (The US seems to be more open about such matters), but I did read the other day that half of all Murders are committed by people who already have 5 or more previous! The argument that Hundreds of people die each year because some multiple recidivist scumbag was given "One More Chance" is a tempting one...!)

That suns it up very well.

Judging by the number of quotes we have in here then the average GD member is also a DM reader. :p

These views apply to ALL media and all internet media.....dont be fooled into thinking u are superior becaude you ride the internetz where no one lies....rofl

From all the links to the DM that I've read on here it seems that the stereotype is geeky men who populate a computer forum but then pretend it was only for a laugh or there was a link to it and they didn't realise it was the DM.
Pathetic troll thread - all types of people read it.

OP clearly knows what the common perception of DM readers is, otherwise why ask, and why not for every other newspaper. Purely trying to start a troll thread.

Yup I got that impression as well, still no less than expected from GD.

:D

Funny because it is so true.

The DM is no better or worse than any other publication - it has its own agenda and pushes it. It is no more or less susceptible to spouting hyperbole than any other - every single one of them is in a feeding frenzy over paedogeddon at the moment.

Personally, I find the DM's moralising tone as equally offensive as the left-wing claptrap peddled by the Guardian. Any paper that a) employs the likes of and b) publishes the views of champagne socialists like Polly Toynbee deserves an equal amount of disdain.

EDIT: Wooo, 1500th post - only taken me nine years :D
