[Hi guys

Just wondering your thoughts on this.

I am thinking of buying a 37" 1080p LED TV (probs an LGLS5600) for a big screen monitor. I will be sitting about 3 feet away from screen.

What would be your maximum screen size in this scenario generally speaking?

Thanks for your input.]

It's all down to preference really. I don't think 37" is too big as a screen, but I do think that for 1080p, 37" is too big, the pixels would look like lego bricks from 3 feet away.

I've got the route of having 3x large monitors (27" 2560x1440) which is a nice combination of individual screen size, resolution, and over all desktop estate.

This also crossed my mind. Am I right in saying 27" is the maximum one really wants to go at this sort of distance?

I wouldn't mind 37" monitors, but they'd have to be at least 3840x2160 for me to be interested personally. 5120x2880 at 37" would be absolutely delicious. :D

27" is perfect and now it is nearly standard. I would never ever buy a smaller monitor. If anything bigger.

The only reason why some say they prefer 23-27" is because they are stuck on small monitors and try to fool them selves.

i havent heard of anyone that has bought a 27" monitor and choosed to go back to a smaller monitor.

i've had a 27" 2560x1440 monitor for a couple of months and still went back to a 24" 1920x1200. it's perfectly sufficient. nothing bigger is necessary.

Thanks for your thoughts guys - I am definitely swaying towards a 24-27" 1080p monitor (remember I have this 50" plasma here too connected to same PC).

well i have 30" @2560 x 1600 which is double the pixels of 1080p, and i would never go any lower, i would go bigger if the resolution went higher for larger screens but they dont, shouldnt be too long before 4k monitors are at more sensible prices rather than the £50,000 - £60,000 mark that they are now, and when they do i could see myself upgrading, money permitting that is.

I went from a 32" tv at 1080P to 27" 120hz at 1080P as 32" was too big for me. The whole pixel density thing didn't bother me just the size did when I sit upclose to it gaming I couldn't see everything in my peripheral vision and I alway's have to move my head. I still feel the 27" is slightly too big so I think 24" would be the ideal solution but I can't be bothered to change again as I do sit back away from my monitor sometimes to watch movies.

I'd say 30" is the limit. But saying that I use to think anything over24" was crazy :)

Pixel density really has to go up.
1080p shouldn't be the standard for monitors, they're not TV's so shouldn't follow Blu-ray's specification.

I had a 27" 1440p but found it too big and the text too small. Now use a 24" 1920x1200 and find it much better on the eyes.

Just done the same.

I have a catleap 27" atm which a friend has offered to buy. I've just gone back to my old dual monitor setup and find it far more useable (asus vg236h + dell 2209wa). I kept on gaming at a lower resolution in windowed mode, making the extra size pointless. For FPS gaming 27" just feels too wide. Bring back 16:10 120hz damnit :)

Gone from 22" 1680x1050 to 30" 2560x1600 which is like a 32" TV but higher resolution. I don't mind not being able to see all my peripheral vision as I used to do eyefinity and I can still see lots of stuff like my speakers besides the monitor. I'm planning on adding two more monitors to the sides of the 30". Playing Trine 2 is amazing it feels like a window into the gameworld very different than my 22" and previous 24" monitors.

i did...

22 -24" is the sweat spot if you ask me, i own a 24". once owned a 27" but sold it, it was to big couldn't see all the screen without moving my head. looking for 2 x 24" ones now.

i know it might be difficult but ask a mate or take a trip to that big retailer and ask to view a few.
